I'll probably be buying a new Wrangler this year, maybe even as soon as this month. I'm trying to decide which engine to go with. My 2013 has a 3.6 and I've been very pleased with it (101K miles so far), but I've heard they've changed that engine a bit. the new 4 cyl sounds interesting, but I hate the idea of paying 50 cents more per gallon for super.

Ultimately, I want the engine that will last the longest with the least amount of problems, but I know that's hard to determine since these engines are so new. Any advice is much appreciated!

I ordered the 3.6 simply because it is the least complicated. The numbers on the turbo are better but the mild hybrid part of it turns me off. I think a jeep needs to be as simple as possible.

For our needs, we went 3.6L. I've had both SC/TC motors. I just wanted something simple. But for the folks who've bought the 2.0L Turbo, it's rock'n for them! To be honest, I don't think you can lose either way. It's a Jeep man! Just make sure to take her offroad! :)

I went with the 3.6L because that's what we have in our 2012 Grand Cherokee and has been a rock through 121K miles, plus the 8spd tranny works well with it. The $1K markup plus premium gas probably offsets any savings from higher mpg and the turbo is something else you will eventually have to replace.

I'm in the same boat eventually, I think I'll stick with the 3.6 since I plan to turn it into a bit of an overlander and I think there's even more electronic stuff that can go wrong with the 2.0 eventually, not something I want to deal with in the middle of nowhere. I'm probably still a good year away from ordering, so I'll have some more data to compare the two, but that's what I'd buy today. And I'd probably change over to the dual battery system somebody makes before heading out to remote places by myself. I'll carry a satellite phone then, but getting a service/tow way out somewhere is pretty expensive and I'd rather avoid that.

2.0 = more fun now; less outside of warranty
3.6 = not a fun little turbo, and still more complicated than I’d like (see threads on the dual battery setup), but probably easier to live with outside of warranty.

That’s what my gut was telling me so I got the V6. Love it so far!

20k on an early production JL 3.6 here, no powertrain issues whatsoever. Love it!

Went with the 3.6l myself because of the 6MT, otherwise, if the 2.0l came with the MT, I may have gone with that, the torque of the engine would be fun.
