Which would you do first? Big tires/axles or big engine first?

I would want a 392, period. Would want the engine power before going down any other route at this point.

If it’s for street driving I would do the 392. If it was going to be used for off-roading, I would never use a 392 on the shelf trails I drive on, and would pick the D60s.

I'm confused by your question.

Are you trying to engine swap a 392? Why not just trade in for a new Jeep then and get the 392 without all of the potential issues you could have with an engine swap? You get a new warranty that way, in the 392s come with a lot of upgraded heavier duty parts than smaller engines.

Sounds to me like you're not hurting for cash if you're willing to do either of these, so why not just get a whole new vehicle and then upgrade the axles later?

Also which engine is currently in your Jeep that your contemplating a 392 swap?

I doubt this is a serious question.

Thanks I have a ‘24XR. It was instead of trading for a 392, get the big axles first and then engine swap later down the road. I would send it to AMW.

I have a Moab on order.

Sorry if it wasn’t serious enough for you. Just kicking around ideas.

Seeing as to I have no interest in a 392, Dana 60 it is!

EcoDiesel has more than enough power for all of my needs, still gets good mileage, and actually has a higher top speed than a factory 392 with my tune.

Shoulda Bought An EcoDiesel!!!
Yeah I had a eco gladiator, I should have bought the eco JL. Live and learn.

depends on tires but if you are going to above 37's go with the bigger front axle and deeper gearing first...rear should be fine for most circumstances unless you are going to 40's or bigger...gear appropriately....tire size would be my determining factor...

Yeah only reason to do it is going to 40s.

I don't ever plan on going bigger than 37s. May just stay with 35s. I have too much fun driving the Jeep everywhere - on pavement and off. Shouldn't need the D60s unless plans change from flat-towing the Jeep behind a Class C to using the Jeep to tow a small pull behind trailer (think @wibornz style camper).

I don't want the 392. Too much for anything I'd ever be doing. I do want to drop a 5.7 V8 in the Jeep though. I think that the 5.7 should have been an option from the start for the JL line.
