Maybe a cooler option will be available and be put in that location.
It may not look like much but there is a lot of investment in making that whole area change. From drawings to making the actual molds to manufacture the inner support that I think is blow molded, correct me if I`m wrong. And the addition of extending the black trim to cover all of it
There has to be some specific reason, we all know Stellantis won't give you something for nothing and I don`t think they would just waste OUR money

I don't have a 2024, so I'm just spitballing, but could it be related to the side curtain airbags that are new? Something to hold them in place at the bottom when deployed or influence the path of deployment?
This may be the best explanation because, as a safety issue, it was imposed on Stellantis to address a specific issue. They would not have spent the money unless forced to. And only on one side due to the way the front driver vs. front passenger bags deploy.

Wouldn’t it be on the passenger side too?

Maybe it's supposed to have an airbag inside, but they forgot to put it there ...

I thought that too but not necessarily. Stellantis would want to spend as little as possible and, because of the front airbag configuration, only the driver side rear side airbag was affected.
Genius! I bet that’s why you get paid the big bucks. I can’t unsee this box. I’m going to figure out a way to get back to pre ‘24. I need to yell at the neighbor kids to get off my lawn first.

It's entirely possible that this bracket / whatever it is supports something required by overseas markets that the Wrangler is sold in but not required in North America.

Well, some things would fit, for another couple bucks make the wasted space eyesore an appreciated functional locking box.

Mine has the box and it is also empty. Not fun removing it. Was intended to be there based on welded studs to secure it.

Since this seems to be a viable location for storage, even with a 2 door, and even with a soft top, does anyone know of "saddlebags" or similar which fit above the tires there? I've seen little bucket things which fill the similarly shaped "useless" space in the back which actually hold the folded top, but haven't run across something like this yet
