It's in every 2024 2-door I've found pics of online and is just an extension of the rear wheelwell trim. Surely it's just covering some extra electronics of some type, as in no pic that I've found does it appear to have any sort of lid or hatch. Just a black chunk of plastic.

He was simply saying he was going to install a JL Stealthbox (which generally goes behind the seat or on the tailgate but also doesn't even show as available from JL right now), but that's not what this is. This is OEM and standard. His comment is below:
"Also I hate the loss of storage in the 2-door cargo area with the Alpine 'sub' so changing that back to storage with OEM parts and will install a JL Stealthbox on driver side rear wheel well. "
