That's definitely hinky. I've never been able to bottom mine out by hand.
Try some grease on the threads of the cap. I like to use a teflon grease, but anything is better than the oil.

To be clear, I don't it to seat by hand that easily. I get my o-ring seated and torqued just fine with like 150k accumulated miles across the 3 vehicles without any cooler housing issues using a dry cap. It's worked for me, I'mma stick with it.

The Dorman part comes with its own set of problems, and really isn't a viable solution. This problem is best avoided by just snugging up the filter cap to sufficiently seat the O-ring. Do not torque the cap to whatever insane number they specify in the manual, and DO NOT let the dealer monkey reef on it.
Seriously. Or add at least an extra quart of oil, ask me how I know.

I just don't like the "sticksion" the plastic threads have.

Fair, I just wonder if that's calculated into the torque spec.
I really never tighten as tight as the spec. I screw it down until I feel/see contact with the shoulder, then stop. The cap isn't prone to backing off from vibration and tighter doesn't make the O-ring seal better.

My concern was the high "breakaway" torque when tightened to the spec. That's why I brought the grease up.
