Just dreaming a bit here, but other than the engine, cooling system, exhaust, and computer, what else is needed to bolt a 392 into a JL where a 3.6L currently resides? I am speaking to pulling a 392 out of one Jeep and putting into the other.

I am assuming the frame is the same as is the transmission. Any other huge hurdles to consider?

The transmission in the 3.6/2.0 is the ZF8HP50. The transmission in the 392/3.0D is a ZF8HP75.

The 8HP50 is capable of handling up to 500Nm (369ft•lbs) of torque.

The 8HP75 is capable of handling up to 750Nm (553ft•lbs) of torque.

The 392 has a max torque rating of 637Nm (470 ft• lbs).

So unfortunately, no, the transmission isn’t the same.

Also, the frame is different too. They had to make quite a few modifications to the front half of the frame to fit the engine, as well as the engine mount placements.

Well...I think I have too much in mine to look back now. I just wish the 3.6L had about 350HP and 325TQ.

Yeah; I wish I only had 70K in mine. If the Tornado comes to pass, I may be forced into a new one, otherwise, I will keep the Grinch...

Yeah I hear ya, if mine was auto I would have just kept it. But hangover mornings in new england traffic pushed me over the edge.

That was after buying it for $23 K so the grand total of $93K and such a deal when selling it!!

Sounds like supercharger whine is in your future.
I have been contemplating it and looked at:

-- RIPP (top contender)
-- Hamburger (2nd place, but the alternator relocation is a bit of downer)
-- Edelbrock (even though it's likely best overall, the loss of the oil fill is a non-starter)
-- Magnuson (completely out, too much BS with its tunes)

Procharger is the only one I have not looked into yet.

The 4xe also has an 8p75 like the 392.

The only difference is the 4xe has a 130hp electric motor instead of a torque converter.

So if you really want to do something amazing.

392 swap + 4xe trans and battery.

600hp 392 plug in hybrid!

This is the whole reason I sold my JKUR recon for the 392XR. I wanted the V8 and the cost to insert one was higher than just building onto the 392. The cost along with the warranty....
