Hey everyone so today I got a in car accident and just wanted to know what people think I would be super bummed if it is totaled but im just waiting on to hear back from the shop it’s at. It’s only on one side too. Other side is fine beside driver wheel bent in. Little edit: I just hit 98k that morning and only had it about a year and 3 months. Along with its a 2014 and I’m the second owner and still owe on it.
Another edit- guy knows someone at police station so trying to blame me and play pitty, cops fucked up the report putting me down as him and him down as me. (Going his way him going my way) so far going smooth and easy body shop is wanting to total it but I will be able to pay it all the way over with a little extra. (Safety reasons driving 5hrs to college).

last and final edit: it’s being totaled out. But good news it has 14k left to be paid on it and it’s worth 20k. ?thanks to everyone and their opinions sad to see it go.

Sorry about your jeep. Hope everyone is OK. This forum is for the 2018 and up Jeep Wrangler. You have a 2014. If no frame damage, it won’t be totaled.

It's actually just for JLs.

But that's unfortunate and as others have said it's a blessing no major injuries. Best of luck.

this Is an opinion thread. My opinion is it isn’t totaled. lets wait and see then you can quote and gloat.
Quote and gloat? I was merely pointing out that a Jeep can be totalled without the airbags going off. That fact has nothing to do with the status of @Alyssa s' Jeep.

It won't, salvage parts are cheap. That's a fairly simple job to repair. Axle, spring and control arms, bumper, fender, tie rods. 8k on a bad day. 15k value or better. It will be fixed.

It is your vehicle, the insurance company can’t tell you what to do. If you get an estimate and the cost of repairs are higher than the value of the vehicle or major damage is found that requires main body structural repairs and or frame repairs they will want to total the vehicle, partly because of safety concerns. If the vehicle has personal value to you and you want to keep it then the insurance company will try to settle the claim by paying you a certain amount of the quoted repair estimate.

A friend of mine hit a deer and lost control and ended up in a ditch with his F150. The insurance company wanted to total the truck. In the end the case was settled by the insurance company paying my friend roughly 2/3 the quoted repairs. We did all the work ourselves and my friend pocketed a couple hundred bucks.

If that was my JK it would have to be burnt to the ground before I let it be totaled.
If the frame is good and it has personal value to you I’d say fix it, I have seen worse come out better than new. Even if things like the suspension mounts are damaged, that just opens the door to an aftermarket long arm lift.
Be careful dealing with insurance companies though, they make money by paying you less and they will pull some sleazy shit just to save a dollar.

Go on YouTube and watch a few videos of people buying wrecks from Copart and fixing them.

You are very much incorrect here. The insurance company will declare it a total loss and the title will be branded if you choose to retain it.

I doubt the frame is bent , the passenger door gap is still perfect

You say I’m incorrect but then say ”if you choose to retain it.” so how am I very much incorrect?

Yes you may end up with a salvage title but the vehicle doesn’t belong to the insurance company. Most states the original owner can still register a salvage vehicle as long as it passes inspection. If the vehicle has sentimental value and the owner has no plans to sell it a salvage title means little. Only effects resale.

edit: my friends trucks title was not effected by the accident because the frame and majority of body was not critically effected by the accidents, it was just more than the insurance company wanted to spend on a vehicle of its age.

The insurance company does get to decide what to do with it. You can choose to keep it but you will have to buy it out, and then it will be uninsured.
