The insurance company does get to decide what to do with it. You can choose to keep it but you will have to buy it out, and then it will be uninsured.
Again, you say the insurance company gets to make all the decisions but then you say you can choose to keep it by settling with the insurance company. Isn’t that what I’m saying, or are we speaking different languages that sound the same.

Tough loss. Age and mileage, and amount of repairs needed, idea say the insurance will likely declare it.

It’s ten years old. If it has average miles, that’s 120k miles. They will more than likely total it. Be prepared to bargain, because they will want to give you auction price for it.

It's actually just for JLs.
The OP obviously did not know the difference.

I was merely pointing out that this was technically the wrong forum.

The insurance company decides whether or not to total the vehicle and that is the entire point.

Sorry wasn't trying to be offensive in any way. I was really just pointing out that "2018" could still be a JK not a JL...

@Alyssa s as you can see there are no easy answers and many opinions. The bottom line is you will have to see what insurance says and then take it from there ...

Hey everyone so today I got a in car accident and just wanted to know what people think I would be super bummed if it is totaled but im just waiting on to hear back from the shop it’s at. It’s only on one side too. Other side is fine beside driver wheel bent in. Little edit: I just hit 98k that morning and only had it about a year and 3 months. Along with its a 2014 and I’m the second owner and still owe on it.

You'll have to see what the shop finds that you can't see frame, mechanical etc. Glad your ok if that don't total it make sure you ask about diminished value because when you go to sell it will hurt the value especially if theres and frame damage. Good luck

Honestly, its really impossible to tell from a couple pictures on the internet, and none (well maybe just a few) of us are insurance adjusters. Each insurance company is different and there are many factors in play that determines if they total a vehicle or not. You just have to wait and see what your insurance company says.

I had a similar hit on a a JL and it was $17,000 in damages. New axle and new driver airbag was $8,000 of that. It was about 60% of value on an 18 JLU, and they typically total at 75%.

I am speculating that yours is still $15K or more in damages and they will likely total it because of age.

The comment of earlier saying no air bag deployment means not totaled is not correct from my experience. All depends on the value of repairs vs value of vehicle, they can replace an airbag and sensors.

It really all depends on your insurance company and your insurance adjuster. Pray they don't total it. We had a 17' Camry totaled and USAA paid us 50% of vehicle's value that was after we fought it for months.

Back in '21, my '13 JK sustained nearly identical damage, although not quite as severe as yours. Total loss.

Sorry to be the (potential) bearer of bad news, but you'll be better off - emotional attachment aside, you don't want that back.

No airbags=no total
That’s been proven not to be true several times in this forum alone.
Just like airbags = totaled has been proven to be false as well.
