I use harnesses and leashes hooked up to the roll bar.

I have a not-very-smart wiener dog/Jack Russell who I introduced to the Jeep shortly after we adopted him. I had the windows half rolled down and his collar securely attached to the front passenger seat headrest.

Fortunately, since he was a rescue, I was being super cautious and driving slowly through the neighborhood because he launched himself out the window and was hanging outside the Jeep by the neck from the leash that's still connected to the headrest. I slam on the brakes, put the vehicle in park, and rush around the side to find him walking all carefree-like down the street since the little skull holding his littler brain slid straight out of his collar.

I haven't tried that again since. I need to get him a harness, but wiener dogs are so oddly shaped it's tough to find something that stays on. Anything wide enough to cover his barrel chest will slide right off his tiny head.

I look enviously at you guys with normal dogs sticking their heads out all cool-like.

I see many of you have, for lack of a better term, blanket type things that go from the back of the front seats to the tailgate. Anyone mind sharing what they are? I have a dopic 1yr old English Mastiff, and he's about to be a Jeep dog!

I have the seats out of my 2-door and use a Harbor Freight 40x50inch moving blanket. It fits perfect, costs $4 and provides reasonable padding/protection from dog hair, etc. They're super light weight, so when it gets all nasty or ripped or whatever, I just replace it with another.

Great minds...

I did the EXACT same thing in my 2 door. From harbor freight and everything.

Just curious but does any company make a net that you can use as a door of sorts to keep the pups in?

I have a cargo cover from Canvasback. Covers the seat and cargo area. Have one in my 4Runner also. Very happy with their product.
