Okay. To be clear this is not a current issue, so far my dog loves the back seat with the top off, keeping him pretty confined within the Jeep ... but I would hate for it to become an issue so... Jeep dog people... when the tops are off how do you make sure the pup stays in?

Thoughts?

Dirtydog makes cargo area netting that goes on your Jeep. This is the third Wrangler I've used it on. My dogs love the open back, too.

Just make sure it's for your jeep:

I can't speak for the jl, since I don't have it yet, should be any day now. But in my jk I would tether his leash to the back roll bar that gave him just enough length to stick his head out on the passenger side or drivers side door opening, depending on where he wanted to look out.

I drive him by all the houses where dogs never get to leave their yard and warn that could be his life.

(But srsly I do what SRR will)

I use a harness that buckles into the seat belt fastener. He's got the freedom to move and stick his head out of the window but prevents him from moving any further.

Would you mind sharing which one you are using?

It's a Kong Seat-belt Harness. I don't have any good photos of him wearing it for some reason.

You should be able to get one at Petsmart or Petco easily.

I do the same. Tiki isn't thrilled with putting it on, but is willing to if it means he gets a ride. I put him in a rear passenger seat so he can stick his head out the window when the doors are on. I plan on taking the doors off this summer and will test out the middle (before driving!) to see how much room he has to move from there.

I use this one from Amazon:

Hmm... you need pics of the Jeep, with and without dogs, to get more likes.
Or rather, pics of the dogs, with and without Jeep, just to keep it real.

That's what I think.

Thanks for this Sean. Not merely the product reference but the point, which I think should be that this post's title best be:

Tops off... Dogs in...Restraints On.... ; - )
