This thread went south from the go. A simple question and all kind of preaching comes on. I respect speed limits, and wonder sometimes the difference at 70 mph between a BMW 325, a Wrangler with 3” lift and oversized mud tires driving on a wet or snowy road. Both claim to be legal, but to me one is a hazard to the other. But off course remember the mathematical impossible that 90% of the drivers claim to be much better than the average. :cwl:

But those questions have real answers. Going dangerously fast doesn't have a purpose other than to increase your risk of death.

Poor outlook on life. We all die. Speed can be fun, exciting, and make you feel more alive. I personally like speeds in excess of 150 mph on motorcycles. That is where the fun starts. Give me fast cars, fast SXS, fast ATVs, fast boats and a fast Jeep.

There is a time and place for it. It is about managing risk. The funny thing is there are places in the US where people drive close to 100 mph. Heckl drive from LA to Vegas on a Friday. There are thousands that are driving at or close to 100 mph. I drove that one time and was doing 92 mph in the middle Lane and was getting passed in the far left lane and getting passed by others on the right in the slow lane. There are many places that a 100 mph can be safety done on public roads. Just because it is not legal does not mean it is reckless.

Rubicon is geared lower... Of course it tops out before a Sport or Sahara.

In my experience most modern vehicles with auto trans are speed limited by computer, those with manual trans aren't. I'm sure this varies by make/model. I've taken a few vehicles over 100mph in my life, but those had equipment to handle the speed. Not sure I have the cojones to try that in a Wrangler.

We both tested our cars to see the top speed, My JLR speed locks exactly at 100 mp/h but his JLU sport S keeps going until until reaching a top speed of about 125 mp/h. Im asking is this a factory issue?
125 mph...off a cliff maybe. There is no way a billboard goes 125 mph with a stock engine on flat ground.

all cars/trucks/suv past mid 80's that have ecu/pcm have been speed limited. Each model has it's own limit by what tire rating it came from the factory.
These limiters can be turned off or modified with most tuners. It's up to the operator then to determine how fast they would like to go. Or max hp/gearing rpm would be. So, if your Rubi could push the wind you would get to 231.7 mph and your friend with S would hit 270 ish with the 3:45 gears.
In the end I would think the real max speed would be 120 ish before hp and air would hold you back.
If you get a tuner, come back let me know what it made it to. that would funny to hear. I have only been 170's in my Vette ( only true sports cars are unlimited from the factory ).
Lastly be safe, do not try on public roads, Many events all over the State's to go have fun at full speed.

Bet the A$$ in the White JL with LED's on the NJ GS Parkway tonight running folks down, flashing everyone and passing them like they don't exist knows how fast it goes.

Merry Christmas to him if he made it home safe without killing anyone or himself.

My friend owns a 2018 Rubi 2 doors, he have mentioned that his jeep doesn't go over 100mph maximum speed. Anyone has the same top speed ?
I'm not sure I'd want to go much faster than that anyhow. Probably not much of a reason to.
