Hit max speed of 97 today. 2022 JLR 2.0 Turbo and it was effortless. Cruising around 78 then gave it the beans to pass some fools clogging the left lane and next thing I know I made the jump to light speed, lol!
I agree, 97 is nothing dramatic or difficult in a JL. I’m usually in no hurry but I make it my business to know the capability. Foot in the turbo will find you on the limiter in no time at all. And in stock form it’s not unsettled, nice and stable.

Yeah, I was quite impressed. The road was a smooth section which helped.

What is the top speed of the JLU 3.6L, 2.0T and Diesel?
This is another rallying cry for our Darwin Award candidates. It does my heart good to see them all rise to the challenge and self-identify. :like:

I read through the Darwin awards from time to time. Nothing surprises me anymore, because I‘m into my fourth decade of watching the idiot Olympics on a daily basis. People sure are funny animals. Too bad the dumb ones take so many innocents with them when they self destruct….

We'll probably see some wanna be test pilot take his jacked up rig with the largest and cheapest tires he could find, made in some unknown far away place, halfway around the planet, by former goat herders, up to eleventy million miles per hour.

I am as concerned about the top speed in a Wrangler as I am about RTI score on the new Corvettes?

Drag limited top speed would be interesting to know, but I’d need a smaller tire for that. The 5.38’s don’t help ultimate top speed either. The Jeep has seen 90 more times than I can count, including remote stretches of desert dirt. On the freeway I think 110 is as high as I’ve ever pushed it. You’ll never find 37”+ tires rated much higher than that, and any you do find will be street/all terrain at best. Not worth testing for me. The idea that the JLU is unstable above 75 or is incapable of a panic stop is just ridiculous. It accelerates, handles, and stops better than most pre 2000 4x4’s I’ve ever owned even lifted on 38’s. A lifted YJ on 35’s always felt like it was boardline ready to crash at anything over 50mph, although not much of an issue as it didn’t have the power to get much over that anyway. Are some of you really out on the freeways with 80-85mph speed limits afraid to run 70+ in your stock JL’s? That’s more of a safety hazard than the guy cruising 10mph over the limit.

I've not felt the need to push it that hard, but have found instances where I got up to 95 on the highway before.

I am sure we all prefer to keep at a slower pace. But it’s good to know what your Jeep is capable of and how it reacts at speed. I didn’t set out to hit the limiter, it just happened as I gave her all she’s got to get around a clogged up left lane. I have zero intentions on doing it again, but heh, it’s possible.

I agree that Jeep CJ/Wrangler brakes continue to improve with each new generation. Unfortunately, decades of improvement have only elevated the braking to "poor". Consumer Reports rated Wrangler JL Sahara/Rubicon braking performance "among the worst". (Most of us take CR conclusions with a grain of salt, but braking performance testing isn't their blind spot.)

When a jeep is lifted and equipped with high-travel suspension, larger/heavier wheels and tires, and other weight-adding accessories, the braking performance drops from among the worst to truly awful. The same combination of modifications takes their stability under abrupt deceleration and direction change from bad to terrible.

Unless you're racing to save a life, and likely even then, driving wranglers over 100 mph is dumb with a capital D. It's especially dumb if the Jeep is heavily laden, lifted, and running substantially oversized tires. As always, just my .02.

I don't think I've had my 2 door on stock minivan tires past 80mph. If you have to stop or change lanes much faster than that, good luck. I take the jeep when I want to slow down and enjoy life, not road rage.

I drive through mountain passes on I-70 in Utah with the cruise control set at 85mph on 37” mud terrains, the Jeep handles just fine. No lane changes aren’t a problem. No stopping is not a problem. The speed limit is 80 for a reason. I have wheeling to do, so I am getting to and from Moab as quick as I can. Driving 15mph slower adds 3 hours…each way. I’ll cruise at normal freeway speeds and enjoy an extra day wheeling every time.

The roads, elevation and curves, and population density in the NE are completely different than out there. Very few roads in PA have a speed limit over 55mph. 62-67 mph is a common right lane average speed here on most highways. 85mph is pretty rare, even in my Porsche. Following distances and other drivers make a Jeep at those speeds a liability when every other car can stop and handle better than you can. On a deserted well constructed road, sure the Jeep can roll pretty fast if you want to.
