  1. Weird ABS / VSC / TC malfunction

Not the BLD, I am familiar with how those operate, I’ve had several vehicles with that feature. AFAIK the Rubicon doesn’t even have it, since it has lockers. This was for some reason applying the brakes and not releasing; at first I thought it was a parking brake. Take your foot off the...
  2. Weird ABS / VSC / TC malfunction

So today, the poltergeist that inhabits the electronics in the Jeep decided to try something new. Climbing the ascent to Hermit pass in CO, I started feeling intermittent brake drag and hearing ABS noises. This is in 4L, where TC is supposed to be off. Dashboard says it was off. There are no...
  3. Just wondering and wishing

I’m in. However I want some things deleted that will NEVER happen in today’s fear-mongering safety obsessed society. Get rid of all the nannies and interlocks that can prevent you driving just because some sensor is not satisfied, or a body component is damaged. The drivetrain should be as...
  4. Calculating track width to reduce rollover risk for lifted Jeeps

Good stuff to know. Personally I’ll never increase track width because these are so wide to begin with. My JL has 5” more track than my WJ Grand Cherokee. More width impedes trail choices so I just accept the change when I lift and drive accordingly. I get where NHTSA is coming from but they...
  5. Dealership is replacing my '21 Rubi. Need to vent. (Happy ending looking likely!)

Absolutely. And what gives you confidence the next one will have any better paint? No fix has been instituted. Trading Jeeps until you get a perfect one sounds like a sound strategy. Not. PS, I’ll cease commenting further on this thread because further posts from the OP indicate he’s got a...
  6. What's the deal with air filters?

If there’s a NAPA nearby you they can usually source OEM Mopar, probably overnight.
  7. New purchase, service requirements?

LOL good point. Never buy a used car from a mechanic.
  8. New purchase, service requirements?

Second this. The most important aspect of choosing a shop is the ethical standards of the owners/ management. In my hometown I take anything out of warranty to a Chevy dealer. Which sounds crazy, but they are honest and fair, and they employ good techs. They treat my vehicles like they were...
  9. Dealership is replacing my '21 Rubi. Need to vent. (Happy ending looking likely!)

I never said his concerns are not valid. Just that he’s reacting emotionally. The dealer is not exchanging a vehicle like you swap a pair of pants with a defect, where no money changes hands. They’re selling him a new one, which will be at future financial rates. With a verbal promise to treat...
  10. Dealership is replacing my '21 Rubi. Need to vent. (Happy ending looking likely!)

First world problems, frankly. Considering the whole global fiasco getting wound tight over cosmetics is not reasonable.
  11. New purchase, service requirements?

Maintenance schedule depends on what are your goals, that is will you just flip it at 100k or less, or will you drive it forever? Something in between? Factory schedule is not bad, but basically intended to get the vehicle through the warranty period. People who want to drive a vehicle decades...
  12. Another gun thread :( sorry

What about a couple of straps up to the headrest to hold the weight. Attached to the molle just to keep it from swaying.
  13. Smoking Diesel

I would certainly park it outside until the cause is identified and rectified. If there’s undercoat on the exhaust it will leave char marks surely. I would closely inspect the exhaust as a starting point.
  14. Price increase 9/28

This is what happens when money is printed and currency gets diluted. And please don’t twist this into a political partisan statement. It’s not. Every portion of our government and financial entities have participated. It’s just cause and effect; something to think about when we are offered...
  15. My Jeep is going bye bye

I couldn’t have said it better. Ultimately this is the aspect that will push me into trading. Jeep has built an incredibly capable machine that gets us farther into hard-to-reach places than most rescue equipment can make it. Then you have to worry about whether one of the many electronic...
  16. Interest rates

People that manage their money don’t buy cars on a whim. That’s the whole point.
  17. How are you securing your cargo?

I built my own drawer system and plate for the rear. Everything is enclosed and locked in, even if we roll over nothing is moving. Under the rear seat I use a variety of tool rolls and soft bags that are all secured with straps and bungees so they stay in place.
  18. Recommended KO2 Tire Pressure

37 is what the Rubicon spec is and the factory knows what they’re doing. I run that whenever I’m not aired down. There’s more wear on the edges than the tread center even so, although that’s probably all the twisty CO roads. I corner somewhat quickly.
  19. My wife is wanting a Jeep traveling dog. Looking for recommendations.

Many years ago we decided not to support dog breeding any longer and so we find our riding companions at shelters since then. We visit and walk through and interact with some dogs and eventually one will pick you. Some people like to go through the puppy phase; we prefer adults. Although last...
  20. My Engine Bay is Cooking = Share your jeep cooking hacks!

In years past I have given a few cans of beany weenies a ride on the intake manifolds of V-8 engines. IMO they are the best cooking device space wise. Your solution for the inline engine is a good one. The JL engine bay is hot enough to make a first rate convection oven.
