I have a JLUR with V6 manual with 2,300 miles. I noticed an unhealthy sounding noise today when I parked and got out leaving it run. It's a loud ticking/clicking sound. Is this normal??
Depress the clutch and report back if the ticking/clicking sounds stops.

I have to say this has been a great thread to read. Lots of various inputs on pluses and minuses with all the engine choices. As stated I think its a personal choice and what the Jeep would be primarily used for. From experience, I had a 2014 Jeep GC with the turbo diesel- hands down an awesome engine. Then there was a recall regarding emissions and then it was over. The turbo lag was almost a safety issue, pushing the pedal to the floor to only have it respond a few seconds later was crazy! Sadly got rid of it was awful to drive. Had a 2012 JK with a 3.6 manual. No issues, seemed too have plenty of power when needed. Traded it in for my 2021 JL with a 2.0 turbo. The off the line pep catches you off guard and I'm getting around 24mpg which is great. My opinion- I think either the 3.6 or 2.0 are matched perfect for the Jeeps. Can't go wrong with either. Not sure on the newer diesel- I loved mine till the recall.

The 3.6 is not available without etorque and the 8 speed auto at the same time? I thought FCA had started doing that again recently due to the chip shortage??
Pretty sure I have a 2021 2 door Willys on the way with the 3.6 and no etorque......The window sticker doesn't reflect it has it though.

I have 2021 3.6 e torque but I'm quiet concern about its reliability for the long term specially I'm living in a really hot temperature area any any overall advice?
How hot we talking? I'm over here in DFW in Texas, it's been a hundred plus every day for the last 2 months. My EcoDiesels doing just fine.

If it's the heat you're worried about, as long as you're not suffocating your engine with angry grills, or other hideous forms of wind blockage, you should be fine. How many vehicles drive around out here in Texas or even Arizona for that matter with zero issues.

Just make sure you're cool and stopped off and your radiator is getting good air flow, you should be fine.

Get a used 3.6 auto with ESS and delete the aux battery and disable ESS. Lower cost and the best drivetrain combo. This will be the combo to have for long term residual value also.

He's in the middle east (Oman).. it's 2x what TX experiences lol, like southern AZ on steroids.

If I lived in that climate, I would install a larger (or more efficient) radiator and maybe even an external oil cooler for sure, however these pentastars are fine running hot. They're pretty durable little motors, some going 500k+ in extreme use (taxi, etc). I don't think you would have an issue unless your coolant hits 250 deg or so on an extended basis.

I put a bottle of amsoil coolant boost in mine and saw about a 5 deg drop in extreme offroad conditions.. seemed to have helped https://www.amsoil.com/p/dominator-...jNHFM9D7YhCekIGGrXF9iEtaIe6UKtOIaAhrzEALw_wcB

Are you telling me it hits 200⁰F in Oman? The average temperatures range from 64⁰ to 101⁰ and is rarely above 109⁰according to Google. The weather in TX is actually just as hot on average and far colder in the winter. You need a more robust cooling system in most of the south west than you do in the Oman. As far as etorque longevity, the 3.6L simply didn't have it 3 years ago, but if you look at 2.0t Wranglers and etorque rams there are hundreds of examples now with 100k+ miles and I've yet to see a single etorque failure.

"Coolant Boost" aka Water Wetter, which has been around for years. I think it's about a buck less per bottle than the stuff put out by the oil cult. It does work, something we've used in race cars over the years because the engines have to run water, not antifreeze, on the track.

Yeah it's a thing with off road vehicles that don't use passenger vehicle coolant, that is true.

Climate and Average Weather in Oman
Oman has a warm desert climate and along the coast you will experience great humidity in summer. Temperatures during summer may exceed 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). The average monthly maximum temperature in the capital Muscat varies between 40° Celsius (104° Fahrenheit) in June and 25° Celsius (77°F) in January. The average annual rainfall is only 80-100 mm (3.14 inch - 3.93).

It's also on the coast so it's super humid at those temps. IMO it feels like 2x. I've been there.

So you "corrected" my 64⁰ to 101⁰ with a 77⁰ to 104⁰? That's an even smaller climate variability. Last I checked Texas was on the coast too? Southern AZ is a good 20⁰ hotter. I'll stand by my statement that you need more of a cooling system in the southwest.

I'll be ordering a 2022 JLUR this month but I'm not excited about any of the engine options. The 3.6 w/ess has the crappy motorcycle battery that seems to fail far too early, plus it's manual only which I don't want on a DD/wheeler. The 3.6 etorque has a complex secondary battery system that I'm weary of. The 2.0 sounds weird and I don't like turbo throttle feel, plus premium fuel. The 3.0 diesel I actually like but my commute makes me a bad candidate for it plus the high maintenance cost and complexity are a turn off. The 392 is awesome no question, but it's not a practical DD and I'm not spending $75k on a wrangler. The 4xE is interesting but not on a vehicle that is designed to get you away from electrical outlets.

I guess the problem is simply just having choice. I kind of wish it were the old days of having the 3.6 and that's it. I'll likely be getting the XR package so I'll have the 3.6 etorque and I'm sure it will be great. It seems ridiculous to not be able to choose a clear winner, but maybe there isn't.
Full on PHEV is still on the jeep horizon. Many like their 4xe, good for them. I'm not sold on 2ltr turbo lasting. I wanted the diesel but they got stupid expensive, and stupid tech heavy, and stupid heavy recall for a motor thats been in the 1500 for 5 years. 392 solves all issues, if you don't mind supporting your local gas station.

The etorque is a no brainer tried and true tech. I had it on my 2000 1500 5.7. Flawless, unnoticeable, and it did start stop like you mean it, without a rumble or notice, hit the gas, the electric starts it moving while the engine starts up. I expect the 3.6 version to be the same way. Don't fear the etorque is what I'm saying.

My choice until they won't let me, 3.6 or one with etorque.

??

I have experienced 5 deg F to 116 this year in Az. Hoping we don't hit 5 again.

Then you better get the 392 this time. The government will have banned it by your next life and most likely by your next Jeep
You got me thinking on this. How many used 392's do you see for sale? Yeah, me neither. OK, I lied, 23 for sale on carguru, cheapest going for $75,000. Cannot believe that motor adds $30,000 to price used.
