Tazer (Programmer) for the JL

For all those interested in having a FRONT CAMERA.... ZAutomotive has just made available, instructions on how to hook up the necessary video cable they have to the JL. Install the video cable, hook up the front camera, enable with the TazerJL and you are in business!

@Rhinebeck01 i am in the big raffle to get one ( I never win stuff, like ever ) but will wait to see how the raffle plays out and my Jeep is going in service for steering drift and wheel not centering and that’s going to be the first week of August, so if I win or if I don’t I would not want to order and install until after the work anyway, thanks for the info, hopefully soon I can turn off ESS for good.

Can someone tell me if the TazerJL will help with one aspect of Carplay that I find annoying? Basically, when you are stopped, Carplay works like I expect it to, and like it has on my previous vehicles with it. You use the controls on the screen to search through Artists, songs, albums, etc... When you are in motion, you are limited to only the few most recent purchases, artists, etc., and need to use Siri to find any other music you want to listen to. I've all but stopped using Carplay for music because of this. Most times, i do not know exactly what song I want to listen to. I like to browse through the lists until I find something.
Can the TazerJL defeat whatever safety is programmed into this unit and make Carplay perform like the Jeep is stopped? This alone would be enough to make be buy one.

Nope, can't see it doing that. Also, cannot get rid of warts, cannot prevent hair loss, cannot enable stronger erections, etc.. :cwl:

I can confirm that it does not unlock CarPlay's "in motion" safety features. Even FCA could not unlock those, as they are controlled by the phone (Apple).

So as I was backing out of a parking space at the store, today, my backup camera didn’t come on. Weird. Tried the app and same thing - no camera. Chalked it up to a fluke and drove home. 20 mins later I had to go out, and no camera when I shifted to reverse. Now I’m annoyed, but I know it’s a software and not a hardware problem because the screen didn’t turn blue or anything like that; the radio screen just stayed on, instead.

An average Joe would say to pull a fuse or battery cable, but I have a Tazer! Did a full UConnect reboot via the “Other” menu, and 2.5 minutes later my camera was working just fine.

I’m a satisfied customer.

I was checking out the Tazer for the JLU and saw that a recent update listed showed "aux videos" on the same line as fixed inMotionNav. I know other Jeeps/Chrysterls with Uconnect have Uconnect Theater - anyone know if this is in reference of playing video via usb through the main screen or, if that's not what this is referencing, has anyone found a way to play video via the touchscreen? Just curious if it's possible.

I would love to know this as well. This might be the feature that pushes me to purchase.

I accidentally stumbled upon something I didn't know today. If I press the mute button twice, it turns on the always on rear view camera! SWEET. No more having to navigate through all the menus to get to that feature while driving down the road!

Mine did the same thing. Seems it gets cranky if you quickly put it in reverse before it goes through it’s cycle. It was fine the next morning. Give it some time, it will reboot.

Yup, double tap mute, turns it on or off.

Double tap is mentioned in the ZAutomotive, TazerJL instructions. Only works for the 8.4 radio.

"Force Backup camera:
Double tap the “mute” button to switch to backup camera (8.4 screen only_."
