I still say the two hole is overkill……the direction is for ease of install. It probably don’t matter which way you actually install it.
Tim
Likely so on the overkill portion. Especially if there is little to no additional support to be given to hopefully prevent or delay breakage and it’s solely there to prevent the visor from falling.

My driver side visor was broke. I went with the one hole and it’s fine. No reason for the 2 hole. I think some customers requested the 2 hole and that’s why the vendor made it.

Just had dealership fix my driver side visor under warranty. Have purchased the single hole fix and will install on both sides to prevent any further issues.

I bought the single screw version, then bought the two screw version when it became available (because why not spend more money for overkill - right?). I had to file down the side of the two screw version until there was almost nothing left on one side … and it still rubbed my visor. Ended up sending the two screw version back and reinstalling the one screw version. My vote … just go with the one screw version and avoid the visor rub that seems to exist with a good majority of jeeps.

And @JeepCares … why won’t Stelantis fix the obviously poor visor design?

Joined the falling visor brigade today…noticed the passenger side visor drooping this AM; I just happened to be going near the dealer later in the AM, so I stopped in.

They had the visor in stock, and replaced it while I waited (about an hour) on warranty! Kudos to Pedder CDJR in Poway, CA; great service! :like:

But…I also ordered a set of TACCOM’s visor clips off Amazon…better safe than sorry. ;)

I mailed a little mailer with a small plastic auto part(USPS) the other day to Alberta, Canada. It weighed 1 oz.. I was charged $14.85 for the least expensive way to send. Took 10 days to get there from Upstate NY.

Those clips weigh more then 1 oz., so I can see where the seller wants that much fop shipping.... and considering he has to take the time to go into the post office to do customs forms...

As a Canadian, you should know this kinda of expense when getting stuff from the USA is the norm..
Blame Canada, blame the USPS... but not the seller.

And keep in mine many USA sellers won't even ship to Canada.... even if you pay for the shipping.
While I tend to agree, in this case it's 2 small pieces of plastic that could be sent as a letter.
AliExpress has knock offs from China with free shipping and cheaper than originals. Sorry, in a case like a product as simple as this, it's a no brainer. By the time it gets to my door I'm at almost $70 vs $20.

Edit: there are no customs forms for a letter. Just affix proper postage.

@Dyolfknip74

You think you can send 2 visor clips as a letter in the year 2022. Funny..
Dream on...

This is not 1979. The USPS wouldn't let you do that these days.

As for the those Chinese, visor clip knockoffs. Pure crapola. I would not even consider ordering/installing those.

Why not? I've gotten similiar stuff sent as a letter from the US as recent as 2020. Has something changed with letter mail? I had some small shims sent from Kentucky that were plastic and about same thickness. Came in a normal letter sized envelope. Pretty sure cost was less than $5 US.

Ok. Not having seen either, what makes the US plastic pieces better quality than the knock off plastic pieces? I'm legit not trying to be obtuse here, please educate me.

Went this route today with a 5/16 push nut from lowes, I recall using theses to put wheels on kids toys. Didn’t put a grove / file mark on the shaft but it sits low and tight. Looks good, works well.

It seems the sun visors are breaking like Chinese toys after Christmas. I found a thread in the Issues, warranty, repairs section of the forums. Mine failed about a couple months ago. I deferred taking it in to a dealer until it was early December. The service lane writer told me they'd need to take it apart to see what was wrong and maybe order a part. He said I'd have to leave it. I left the dealer annoyed. Later, I realized it just went out of warranty for this kind of stuff.

Later, I looked up the part on the internet seller's sites. This visor is nearly $400 online with discounts. Given that the OEM design sucks, I wasn't going to buy another just like it. I wanted to make it better if I could repair it.

I finally took it apart a week or two ago. Here's a picture of the detached retaining ring, allowing the tapered shank of the visor to drop out.

Thanks so much for this detailed description for this fix! I was so grateful you took the time to take the photos and post this to save me from buying a new one. I was able to do exactly as described and my visor is better than new. Now to do the passenger side.

Update…TACCOM visor clips arrived; although broken visor was replaced under warranty (see prior post) I decided to install these to (hopefully) avoid a repeat failure.

Very easy install; I replaced the supplied screws with trim screws (I prefer the look of them, and very little filing was necessary for a good fit).

I used thread locker and lubricated the OEM visor shafts with LANOX. Visor clips look very well made and fit great.

I was going to apply thread locker until I realized I was screwing into a clip. The factory doesn’t seem to use a typical anaerobic thread locker. It’s more like a thick paint which I’m unfamiliar with. Any ideas about that?
