I don’t have very steady hands so the retaining ring wouldn’t work for me. So I threaded it. With the plastic broken off of the end of the bendy piece, a 1/4-28 tap will make enough internal threads to hold a bolt. Then a bolt with a washer to hold it to the plastic piece that the bendy metal piece goes through. The driver side was already broken, so I went ahead and did the passenger side, too.

I actually forgot I did these TACCOM clip things till I came across this thread under threads with my posts. They were very inexpensive. Install them (only took a few minutes each side) and forget about them - you don't even see them. I did it as a preventative thing - highly recommended.

My 2019 had the visor issue where it would fall out of the hole. I got the fix for it off of amazon and it was fine. Are the 2023's having issues with that too? It feels more solid to me than the 19. But I figured I'd buy that little plastic thingy and install it before if it's likely to happen again. Anyone still having issues?

It took me a few days of thinking about how to repair the visor in a way that would be stronger than the OEM POS. I had all kinds of ideas about machining rings and cross drilling the metal shank.

In the end, I came up with an idea, all on my own, that apparently was also devised by Dorman for the JK in their repair kit. I found this out later after I had ordered what I needed for the repair.

Here's the repair.
You need a T25 Torx driver, a very small flat blade screw driver, some electrical tape, a sanding disk or other method to remove some plastic and a little triangle jeweler's file.

You'll need to get a 5/16 push-on retainer of a specific type. I found them on amazon for $3.59 + $3 shipping.

You can find similar ones from McMaster-Carr or Grainger for about 5 to 10 cents each if you buy 100-200 pieces. I just went with the amazon listing because it was easy and I can't envision using many of these. Although, I can see the need for one more for the passenger visor.

I've written this for a Jeep equipped with the garage door opener and lighted mirror. If you don't have these options, yours may not have any wiring and you might not need to remove the rollbar cover.

If you have a top on the jeep, you need to remove at least enough to get access to 2 Torx screws on the plastic cover on the top rollbar tube. I have a hardtop and just removed the "Freedom panel". Remove 2 other lower screws on the rollbar cover and remove it. That will expose the tube and you'll see a connector near the A-pillar. Disconnect it. Also remove the push-pin retainer that holds the harness in the rollbar. Remove the 2 Torx screws in the visor base and you should have the whole visor in your hand.

Yes, I used the 2pc collar w/ mine, there's several ways to fix this along w/ that bracket support (in the post right above mine) that will fix this pathetic design flaw.

No need to replace visor / that cracked/broken piece..

Aftermarket clips will repair that. That is all you need and it takes less then 5 min. to do the install of the clips.. Just push up/back in firmly... hold all in place an install the clip with the 2 provided Taccom screws, not the stock screws you removed..

Suggest you go with .... The Original TACCOM double offering.. If your visor was not broken I would say go with the single Taccom offering.

I myself, would not buy the crapola knockoff offerings.. Do go with the Taccom offering like many/most here have gone with.

More often then not the knockoff offerings fit bad, made of poor material, off coloring..

Going through the last 1-1/2 years of this thread it appears that the visor issue might be largely limited to the 2018 through 2020 models?

Couldn't find any newer models with failures - though possible I missed or the year wasn't listed.

The Mopar parts catalog shows multiple part number revisions to the visors so it appears they've been working the problem. Perhaps a drop in demand has influenced Taccom's price drop?

Was going to order proactively but will likely put it on ice for a while -

This is exactly what I went with.
I think I did it in my first month of ownership.
I don't use my visors very often in any vehicle I've ever had, but it was cheap peace of mind. Was it ever going to break being a '23? Maybe, maybe not. C'est la vie.

In the summer I get more sun glare from literally every other direction than the windshield, it feels like. Top off, doors off or whatever combination.

Thanks for that info - it can be difficult to tell whether an issue is fixed or if people have just gotten bored w the topic.

Sounds like best for me to go proactive, I don't need one failing on a trip -

Yep, it can be a bit distracting when if falls in your lap when navigating your commute or a winding mountain road

Imagine how much money Jeep has spent over the years to replace these poorly designed visors under warranty. And...they just slap on another identical unimproved replacement. It's the definition of insanity.

I get that corporate doesn't always know what's going on on the shop floor, but really. This one is boneheadedly obvious.

This will make me rethink another Jeep purchase. The drivers side was covered under warranty, but this just happened to the passenger side. Jeep, we are all very disappointed in the lack of quality with things that should just be better. What other vehicle does the visor break in such a short time. The visors in my 20 year old Chevy van work fine and they get just as much use, if not more. Thanks for all the great ideas on how to not spend over $400 to fix this Jeep junk.
