The OP said he has a good chunk saved up and would definitely be able to afford it. We should take him at his word.

OP, if you can afford it, love the Jeep and get a great discount (which is even more valuable in this crazy market), then do it. You seem to be sensible with options, 2 door, etc.

You will have a safe, modern vehicle, with warranty and certainty in your transportation costs (excluding being sucked into upgrades :)) for a long time.

Don't overthink it. This is not like getting married.

I agree with most of your advice. With the exception of maybe a used Wrangler in today's market. Traditionally used cars have higher interest rates. Plus used Wranglers were not always the best buy in the long run due to impressive resale values. Used Wranglers today are definitely not a good value when they are selling at near msrp from 2 years ago. You can order a brand new one at 6%-8% under invoice today and take advantage of a new car's lower interest rates.
my main point was don’t put yourself in debt at 20. everything else i said was fluff.

“Because I can afford it” makes no sense. Again, is it really needed?
All of these 5, 6, 7, even 8 year loans nowadays show plenty of people can’t afford these vehicles. People that aren’t just “young” either. A lot of the astronomical prices out there have to do with people piling on options. People are entitled to buy whatever they like of course but honestly that mentality is why options are priced so high. Especially since it’s easier to spend money one doesn’t have yet(a loan.)

I’m seriously debating on pulling the trigger and getting a brand new 2 door. All I want is AC added and the sarge green color. I do get a really nice employee discount(7-10% off MSRP). But I really can’t justify spending $30000. I’ve looked at low mileage TJs and JK but the price difference between the JL isn’t that much. I’m only 20 years old but I do have a good chunk saved up and I would definitely be able to afford it.
IMO A used Jeep doesn't make sense, the JK are too expensive right now and the TJ are old vehicles unless you are mechanically inclined and want a project. If you don't need a new car, just drive what you have, continue to save and waiting until you are ready. You can always buy a new JL in 3 months, 1 year or 2 years.

I work at the Jeep plant in Toledo. My job is to load all the new Jeep’s in the trains for shipping... and my lord do they drive nice. I would appreciate any advice! Ive owned a 98 TJ before and I loved driving it(I regret selling it but I got offered a good amount of cash!)Also, for anyone that has ordered a Jeep in the past couples months that may see this thread, their are about hundreds of wranglers and gladiators just sitting on plant lots waiting to get chips!
Jeep Wranglers are a terrible value, and are overpriced. Just because I own one (and it's bloated with overpriced options) doesn't mean I don't acknowledge this, it just means my margins are more comfortable, so I can afford to waste money to get what I want. I too paid around 10% below MSRP, which made it a bit easier pill to swallow, but at roughly 40% of my annual income, the Jeep was still expensive in relative terms. If you're making $40k a year, a JL @$30k is 75% of your annual, and a depreciating asset. At 20 years old, it's not a good idea to have one that big at such a high percentage of your net worth/annual income.

Buying a Wrangler is always an emotional decision because it's an emotion inducing vehicle. If I were a young man and had to drive dozens of these every day that were all going to other lucky buyers, it would drive me mad. It'd be like buying all the hot women at the bar their drinks all night and then watching them all leave with someone else. But like it or not, in your position you're in the "friend zone" when it comes to a new JL. Dropping 30 large will get you one to take home, but I fear your morning after regrets. Probably better to meet a nice JK at the local library and take it slow.

You're a working man, and you know the value of your own hard earned dollars better than anyone. But long, hard experience has shown me that there are many more important long term things you should be putting your money into right now.

Throwing of wet blanket done.

Right I agree.

Ramsey is a little too radical for me. I prefer living not saving everything for living a little later.

My first car was brand new Nissan Pickup, 18 when I bought it was working in a warehouse after school then full time before college. Never had a problem nor do I live in poverty now so all worked out.

Radical - yes...but that's why it works. I agree with 95% of the things he says and teaches. (Not meaning other ways are wrong)

The recipe has changed...for the young men...starting out in the 2020s.

1 - Don't get married (at least not before you hit 60 or so).
2 - Don't buy a house (at least not before you hit 40 or so).
3 - Save only enough to be able to have fun.
4 - Buy the vehicles/toys you want as early as you can to enjoy them for as long as you can.
5 - Live life.

P.S. Besides the gbmt will pay for housing, food, health care, sex-reassignment, etc if you get tired of working.

First off I just want to say thank you for helping get my Willys to the dealership.
And hell yeah, buy the jeep. My jeep was $37640. One month after picking it up, I can sell it for a profit. It is a great time to buy new, and a poor time to buy used. Order today.

Seems that way. But what you really mean is you and me are paying for housing, food, health care, sex-reassignment, etc for those who will not work. I am pretty sure the Gluberment won't pay for jeep mods, but you can ask. If they do, I will be paying for mods, just not my own. :(

You got that right. I'm pretty sure I have paid my share for at least one convicted traitor's housing and sex reassignment in Federal prison.

But look at it from the bright side.

Oooops, sorry, I could not come up with a bright side.

Anyone with your best interests in mind is going to tell you that spending that much money on a car in your early 20's is a bad idea. Whether you can afford it or not, the money you bank in your 20's is going to be worth WAY more down the road than the money you save in your 30's or 40's.

Behave and a few years down the road you can buy an even nicer Jeep (or a house even).

There's a lot of talk around it not being worth your while at your age. I don't disagree that buying a new car at age 20 is a bad idea. With that said just because it doesn't make financial sense, doesn't mean that it won't be a ton of fun or that you'll lose your ass. Jeeps retain their value and a brand new Jeep around $30,000 is going to hold it's value better than anything. There is more to life than money. If you truly want the Jeep and can realistically afford it(meaning still have money for rent, basic needs, save additional money, etc), I would go for it. You only live once. Have fun, especially at your age. I bet a lot of wish we could've had a brand new Jeep in our 20's.
