This is extremely helpful. I managed to find an 8.8. What should I torque that to? I did have a torque wrench, though it’s been a few years since it’s gotten use!The shock will have gas pressure pushing it upward. Use a pry bar or large screwdriver to pry the top of the shock into alignment with the hole.
When you buy the bolt, get a grade 10.9 bolt. This is the rating on the strength of the steel it's made from. If you get a common low grade bolt (typically grade 5.8) it will be about half the strength and may fail after some time. But could be used temporarily.
If you locate a grade 10.9 bolt of the proper size, it should be torqued to 81 lbs/ft. If its a grade 5.8, torque it to about 50 lbs/ft.
Most of the bolts you'll have on your jeep will be grade 8.8, 10.9, or 12.9
Now is your opportunity to start your tool set.
