Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 2021 Diesel
All, this is my first post. I bought a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Diesel in June of 2021. I've driven it all over the country. However, in September of 2023 I began having this issue: At a traffic light, the error come on my console Service Electronic Stability Control. My engine shut off. I turned it back on, but it shut off again. I eventually realized that if I turned off the auto start/stop it would start and allow me to drive. Weird though, because once I let my foot off the break the vehicle started to accelerate on its own. I was able to drive it to the nearest Jeep dealer. But the only problem is I could not drive it over 33 MPH. They worked on it, and told me the auxiliary battery was bad. So I drove the jeep home after them repairing it. It took them about 3 days. A month later, I started my jeep in a parking lot after having lunch and the error automatically popped up on my console. Service Electronic Stability Control. So I called the jeep dealer and took the jeep to them. They had the jeep for nearly 4 weeks. Finally told me that they had to replace the accelorator pedal and sensor. A few weeks later I was on a business trip and I was looking at a job site. I had just gotten back into my jeep after taking a bunch of photos. I turned on the jeep, left it in park and started looking at the photos I had taken. About 5 minutes later, I got the same error message on my console. i Took it to the nearby jeep dealer and they checked it, reset the error code and said they found nothing wrong with it. I drove home. Last week, I was sitting in traffic, waiting for the light to change and the error popped up on my console again. So this time I drove it and parked it and used a family member's car to get home. I contacted the jeep dealer I had gone to the first two times and they never called me back. That's fine, I had no confidence they could fix the issue. I found the corporate number to Jeep Customer care and they told me they would create a case and have a service manager contact me to recommend the correct jeep dealer to go to in order to fix my problem once and for all. I'm very frustrated because when i get this error, I cannot drive more than 33 MPH. Unfortunately, Jeep hasn't called me back yet and I've called them several times for follow-up but have not spoken to the supposed "expert" who would get me to the right dealer to solve my problem.

A couple of things to note. All 4 times this has happened, I was stationary. Two times I had the gear in drive and my foot on the break. Two times I had turned on the jeep and left it in park when the error popped up.

I also referenced this forum: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/electronic-stability-control.94947/. My jeep is past the warranty period and not covered by my state's lemon law. suggestions?

First note: the two batteries are like Romeo and Juliet: they die together. If you replace one you really, really need to replace the other. That's likely to be a root issue.

One simple thing to try for the electronic service control failure is to turn your steering wheel lock to lock. I've had mine get out of whack and doing that resulted in the steering wheel no longer being straight. If that happens then adjust it and hopefully the error will go away.

Thank you. I'll give it a shot.

Disconnect the aux for good. Pull fuse 42, tape off negative aux cable. This seems to be the solution to these electrical gremlins.

UPDATE: So, I started my jeep after it sat in the driveway for 8 days. The check engine light was no longer lit, nor did the ESC light come on. So I drove it home (about 100 miles). I then drove it last night and this morning, no problems. Until my last errand before heading home. I got the error again. Same as before, while stopped at a traffic light. Here's the crux of the situation: I understand the ESC light coming on if you're driving and swerving, or whatever. However, I only get the error when I'm stationary. Then, once I start driving again, I cannot proceed over 33 MPH. That's my biggest issue. I have found that if I stop the jeep, turn it off and wait for a few minutes, I can turn it back on and the ESC light goes out but the check engine light stays on. I am then able to drive it as normal with no speed restrictions. I wouldn't even worry about the error if I didn't have the issue with speed after the error pops up on my console.

Possible bad wheel speed sensor?

Have you turned the wheel lock to lock yet? I'm not saying it'll definitely fix it, but it's easy and cheap to do as a first step in diagnosing the issue.

I did. I attempted it a few times. It doesn't seem to make a difference.

I have not pulled the codes. What do I use? I have no idea what device or process to use. I did just speak with the service manager at my local dealer and they won't help because they don't have a diesel tech on staff at the moment.

A standard OBD scanner should get you some basics. Most auto parts stores will pull them for free.

Mine did this same dam thing last night. SESC came on and the thing would not go over 33 mph. I pulled the fuse cover and pushed in the fuses. Some did move. Did and lock to lock sweep on the steering wheel and now it works. Both Batteries are brand new. jeep has 22k on the clock.
