U'm, we already have that.

I think you already knew that, LOL. So, this whole thread is to discuss whether people believe what we already have?

Example in Moab:
Chicken Corners = 2. Easy
Hell's Revenge = 5. Moderate
Cliff Hanger = 8. "Serious"
You subjectively chose 8 as serious, why isn't it 6?

why? they are so much fucking fun. we ride almost every weekend. i can leave my house and ride non stop. and, its cheaper than bouncing my 392 off trees
I have nothing against the machines. But the vast majority of the operators, they're terrible.
As @Mocopo said, it's all about the attitude of the driver.

I'm not sure how many times I've been waiting for someone to make it through an obstacle when a group of side by sides comes up behind us and makes their own trail around the line of Jeeps waiting as well as the obstacle. They seem to love to tear up the trail. Sure, the same thing could happen with Jeeps, but that's not been my experience.

I'd love for those trails to stay open.

Because I've done both, and an 8 is much harder than a 6. And I would think that anyone else that has done both would feel the same. The scale is accurate as described. 1-3 is easy, 4-6 is moderate, 7-10 is serious.

I think we're on the same page. I guess the original argument would be that saying that just because one person thinks it's serious, doesn't mean it actually is. If we were to run through this exercise, take all these measurements, and include a large sampling of opinions, we'd find a much more accurate measurement of the seriousness. That way, when one person thinks a dirt road is serious, we can say "No it's not." Since we aren't willing to do that work, we're left with educated guesses that over-value our own opinion.
Yep, you pretty well nailed it.

The trails here, which are vastly different from yours in the west are pretty much dedicated to SxS's. We have tons and tons of trails dedicated to oil leases. I live on the NY/PA line in the boonies. They frown on jeeps and trucks using those trails and some you just cant fit a jeep.

SxS guys can be a bit retarded for sure. Lots of them here drink like fish and do all sorts of stupid shit but for the most part, respect the trails.

We can ride from bar to bar which is really nice.

Ok taking a breif respite from the thread topic to give my .02 on SxS.

They're marketed as a great equalizer offroad. People with zero off road experience can use them to get down gnarly trails to awesome locations. Yay adventure.

The selling point is also the downfall. You end up with a lot of people who have no respect for nature, the outdoors, the trail, other drivers, campsites, trail etiquette. It's all secondary to them, if it's a thought at all. Driving skill? Not required.

Contrast that with your average off roader that has to go slow. Your forced to be among nature, so if you don't like the outdoors, for hours at a time, you probably aren't going to enjoy off roading. The excitement of getting to your destination, and the hard work it could have taken to get there, many times high levels of skill. The desire to share those experiences with others. To sit around a campsite and revel in the adventure of the day, knowing that many have come before you and will come after. I'm not saying this is how every regular off roader feels or acts... but it's certainly a much higher volume than among the SxS community.

Its so easy they give them to their children to do it. There have been a handful of times at the natonal park we off road at there have been 3 SxS 1 in the back with an adult and 2 in front packed with children under 15

There were a few parks down in TX with dirt trails full of kids on various machines. Seems like every time I was there, they had to call life flight for someone. One time it was a drunk on an ATV with his kid riding with him.

The darwin is strong with some people.
