I call shenanigans on the lack of auto-rain-sensor being due to fold-down windshield. I'm no rocket scientist - but I would bet I could engineer a simple switch that, when the window goes down the switch toggles and disables the auto-sensor portion of the rain sensors. I mean, if you fold your windshield down - you aren't exactly concerned about rain, are you? so the feature, heck the wipers, could be disabled entirely. and in fact - I would hope the wipers ARE disabled somehow when the windshield is folded down.

I would bet that in a vehicle such as my Ram, I could install a switch from Radio Shack or whoever it is nowadays on the big box in the top center of my windshield that would be a push-button switch that could even simulate if my windshield DID fold down, it would disable by switching out/off

Like I said I'm no engineer - I work in cybersecurity for a living - but it's really not that hard to install a simple switch. or even - I donno - make it a MANUAL switch. you could put the switch right next to the on/off for ESS

they didn't put the features in because they figured they could sell enough Jeeps without having to bother. and that - that's the fault of Jeep-brand-loyalty.

Driving my JL Sahara home today, which is fantastic by the way, I was wondering why Jeep didn’t finish it. The Sahara is positioned as the luxury model of the Wrangler lineup. Well It’s as close to what you get or should expect from a Wrnagler in terms of luxury.

But I’m wondering why didn’t Jeep finish it. The JL now has proximity entry. Parking sensors and camera, blind spot monitoring, a great infotainment centre, nav, CarPlay, acoustic front glass, heated seats and steering wheel, dual climate control, a power sliding top for those who don’t want to pull the top off, full led lighting, leather seats and dash, Uconnect remote start from an iPhone. All great and luxuriousish stuff.

So why miss a few extras that are less technical or basic adds for most other cars that have been available for years.

Why no power seats with memory. Hold on I’m talking about the Sahara not the Rubi or Sport. The Sahara has a leather dash and if you get the power top you can’t remove it. So almost all Sahara’s are mall crawlers and most of them will not have the interior hosed down after being in the mud. Power memory seats are available in the most basic cars so why.

Why only parking sensors for the rear. They put sensors in the rear bumper why not the front bumper. So does the statement that the bumpers get changed hold water. Well no both bumpers get changed on Wranglers. There are sensors in the rear bumper so why not sensors for the front too.

Why no auto wiper sensors. Proximity entry and blind spot monitoring but not auto wipers? They are so everyday now. I have had them in my vehicles since the early 2000's.

These are basic and not expensive so the price would not be drastically effected. Plus they could be options so therefore purchased only if wanted.

I do not understand why they went 97% and stopped short. In my opinion it wouldn’t change what the Wrangler is supposed to be. Not more than proximity, blind spot monitoring and remote star has anyway.

Am I missing something?
Several of the features you mentioned just can't be added due to Wrangler limitations. Like the auto wipers, can't be added because of the foldable windshield. Same with the side sensors, can't add due to removable doors and having to add reinforcement points to the areas in order to keep the body stable and for crash safety.

You'd have to understand, a Wrangler's first intent is off-roading and daily driving comfort comes in second. So if anything hinders what makes a Wrangler a Wrangler, they just cut it out. If you want a true comfort SUV with off roading capabilities, they have the Grand Cherokee. Those are designed with road driving first and off roading second and thus come with tons of luxury options.

They could definitely add some sort of switch like they do to doors that lets vehicle know if door is open to the windshield. They probably just ran the numbers and cost of doing that and figured it wasn't worth it. Maybe in a future model they'll add it.

one thing I still don't understand is the power windows. Or "half" power windows - Is it really that complicated to make ALL of them 1 touch? And if yes... OK. Is it really that complicated to make the ONE window one touch down and UP? Seriously, how hard is it?

I don't think the issue is the sensor triggering the wipers while the windshield is down, the issue is packaging the sensors - you gotta ut them somewhere, and most are attached to the windshield / windshield frame. If you do that, then the sensors move with the windshield and the folding windshield all of a sudden has electronics and wiring to consider.

It's nowhere near impossible, but folding the windshield makes it harder so it's a reasonable tradeoff for this type of vehicle.

The Sahara is two wheel drive with the select a trac option.
I am not sure if you are trolling or just misinformed?

When somebody gets the select a trac option they can place the transfer case into full time 4WD. They can also shift into 4Hi and 4Lo. Choosing Select A Trac option does not make the Jeep two wheel drive.

All Jeeps are two wheel drive until you use the transfer case to shift into 4 wheel drive whether that be Full Time (select a trac), 4Hi, or 4Lo.

I picked up my Sahara last night. First time Jeep owner. Coming from a Tesla and previously a Lexus. Thinking the Sahara was the luxury model, i was surprised to get home and realize mine didn’t have navigation, or power seats. It’s not a big deal, but surprising for all the other bells and whistles it has. I realize navigation was an option, I just got so caught up in wheels and tires I didn’t bother to check if mine had it. (And realize apple play works so not too upset).
tbh I haven't used the Jeep Navigation since I got it. Been using apple maps ever since and they've been working like a charm. I wish I had google maps tho. So don't feel too bad.

You transfer case lever will have the option for 4H Auto. 4H Auto being the full time 4 wheel drive.

Had to get that for winter, roads here are weird at that time. You' drive a mile of nice smooth dry road, then ice then snow, then sand on ice, then back on dry normal road all on one street. When you think you can finally relax you slow down to stop at the red light and bam black ice smh.

So, I have to be honest. I didn't know an auto rain sensor was a thing until I read this thread. Maybe because I live in the desert. So, I'm assuming it turns the wipers on, but is that it? Or does it regulate the speed so it doesn't make that chattering sound.

I also didn't know about adaptive cruise control, but I don't think I would like that if it put me closer to people than I liked to be. But what do I know, the cruise control in my current car stopped working along with the dash lights 2 years ago. Also the driver door handle broke off (I didn't fix it), the radio cuts out if I turn it up too loud, the engine stalls if I get back in the car when it's still hot, and the power steering screeches when I cut the wheel full tilt. So any new car is going to be an upgrade for me.

they're two creature-comfort features that are pretty nice.

the rain sensor - on my Ram so it could be similar in a Jeep if it were there - detects when it rains, and how hard it rains, and sets wiper speed accordingly. you set the wipers to "auto" once and never fiddle with them again. not sure on other vehicles - but on my truck they are spot-on awesome. my wife's Acadia doesn't have it, and it's noticeable. no real inconvenience - but you notice the difference. convenience.

adaptive cruise control is another awesome convenience-feature. my wife's car has it, truck does not. you set your "max cruise speed", say 75mph, and set a distance - short-med-long - and drive. Really great on an interstate; you're cruising along, and come up on a truck in front of you. the vehicle automatically detects and slows down. you get in the passing lane, nothing in front of you, the car accelerates to your cruising speed. the distances are nice for all I think - far is probably too far, I leave it on medium most of the time.

I do a lot of driving from GA to DC (125k miles of driving in 4 years) so I definitely notice (now that we bought the wife a new car with adaptive cruise) the missing cruise.

they're both solidly in the "convenience" side of features; very little safety involved. a backup camera has a lot more value in that department. But they're nice features to have if you get them

That's nice that it adjusts the distance. I will hardly miss something I've never had and I do mostly city driving. I guess I'll be on the lookout whenever my wife gets a car again.
