I have owned 2 392 four doors. Sold both as I hated the extra length and SUV look of the extra doors. And yes, driving a 2 door is significantly different than driving a 4 door. But hey, you do you. I could give a rats rear end what you or anyone else drives. But when it comes to a Wrangler, make mine with 2 doors and 3 pedals. If I want to drive an SUV I have the Z71 Tahoe.

I’ll show you this as an example.

This year at Easter Jeep Safari I went on one of the Gold Bar Rim trail runs. There’s one major obstacle, not super hard, but a lot of folks couldn’t do it. It’s called the waterfall and it’s maybe a 7-8foot ledge that must be descended coming down, and then ascended going back out (when running gold bar rim alone, it’s an out and back trail. Though many folks come onto Gold Bar from Golden Spike and only climb this obstacle).

Anyway, the only rigs that struggled were 2drs. They are short enough that while going up, the entire rig is on the wall (front axle hasn’t crested the top of the wall before the rear starts to climb). This leads to them becoming pretty “nose light” and losing front end grip, slipping backwards, and often doing a bit of a rear axle stand before settling down to try again.

(I’m trying to upload a video but striking out)
On the other hand, I imagine a 2-door would be a lot less hair raising on that famous switchback point on Black Bear Pass.

This is very true. There’s no denying that the turning radius is noticeably tighter with the 2dr, and the break over appreciably better for a given tire size.

Wheelbase just adds stability on steep terrain, and to a certain degree climbs ledges a bit easier. Basically the center of gravity is lower on a 4dr than a 2dr all else being equal. A 4dr on 37+ tires, lockers, and the proper suspension to flex out is a rock crawling beast. 37’s and beyond’s on 2dr (in my experience) raises the COG to the point that you start to get traction and stability issues going up big rocks. The vehicle just “leans back” too much and the front end can’t get as much purchase on the terrain.

For the type of terrain I seek out (Moab and Sand Hollow mainly, since I live so close), the wheelbase of the JLU seems just about perfect. Mild lift and some 35’s can get a JLU most anywhere the average adventurous keeper is willing to go. 37+ tires and it’ll handle trails I’m not really willing to try, and it’ll run the trails I love quite easily.

And it still probably isn't noticeable. You all act like the length difference between the two is comparable to the JL and the Gladiator.
I've driven both... huge difference! Very noticeable... are we talking about the same thing?

We had lots of CJ's when I was growing up but my brothers and I all got hooked on the CJ6 that my dad put a V-6 in around 1963. After enjoying that thing for more than a decade, when Jeep came out with the 4 door V-6 - I knew that's what I wanted. Yeah, the wheelbase is longer than a 2 door and a 2 door is better at its stuff, but if there is a question, the answer is 4 door.

Sounds like the recipe for a Station Wrangler to me... If you attempt to do road trips with the wife in a Real Wrangler, you will never hear the end of it.
Don't be too sure. My wife and I are in our late 50s and have taken multiple long (for us) road trips in our 2-door. The longest were 3500 and 3000 miles round trip. My wife loves these road trips in the Jeep and will actually do most of the driving. We have a minivan that is a more comfortable travel vehicle but certainly not as fun.

I've had two 2 doors. Wife and I have taken our current 2 door on a couple long road trips with back seat out , but I can't see taking a long trip in a 2 door with 3 or more people. I have an F-150 for most of our road trips, which is much better for highway driving.

Since 2006, this has been a polarizing topic. People will defend their choice to a point of silliness. It's nice to have choices, and either way ya go, your ride will still be cooler than your neighbor's. I am in the two door only camp. Never needed or cared for the additional doors personally, but I understand their popularity and can see why the unlimiteds outsell the two doors 10 to 1. It's all about space OP, you either need the additional space for cargo / humans or you don't.

Although I'm a two door guy always, jeep had to jump into the four door market or get left behind. Now if they would just do something about the qc or they will get left behind or at least sales will be lost to other competitors . Of course the big three all have their problems and with the electronics constantly failing and a centralized computer hooked to everything else time will tell. We should be able to order what we want. To many nanny's. With the chips being unavailable might be a blessing. Just heard about a lot of vehicles just setting waiting for chips. But who knows.

All I’ve ever owned is a 2 door and when we (gf & kid) go on any longer weekend trips I use a hitch cargo carrier for extra gear etc. it also has a cover that zips up so everything is safe from weather etc. It works well for us.
@Jay_Jeep What hitch cargo carrier do you have? Do you recommendit it? I'm looking for one that doesn't restrict (when unloaded) opening the tailgate. Thanks.
