I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I had a Sahara Polar jK, and then a 2020 JK Sahara Altitude- the dealer made me $ell it to them. I ordered a 2022 4xE Sahara, of course all have been fully loaded.. I like bells. The 4xE started out with gorilla glass issues- glad I leased it because they told me it would be a year b4 I got it-turned out to be 4 months. So I got all credits up front and leased. This is the first Jeep I have ever had issues with… I am thinking about flipping into a gladiator Mojave built up fully loaded for 2023. Should I wait for 2024 or order a new 2024/25 Sahara? I am soiled of the 4xE and the Gorilla glass monster.

Definitely wait, indefinitely.

For rock crawling, I prefer the dimensions of the 4 door actually. Plus climbing and going down steep stuff? 4door every time. I ride in Moab a lot and I think there’s a reason that the LJ is so sought after for Moab rigs, that little bit of extra length really makes a difference in that terrain.

the 4door is a bit longer than LJ, but not too much so. Gladiator starts to be too long, but JLU is about right.

I’ve got a 2dr and 4door. As much as I like to say 2dr is the “real jeep” I can’t deny that I reach for the 4dr whenever I go off-road.
How do the 2drs do in the steep inclines/declines. As that's my only real delema

I will put this in the original post as well

For those wondering, I currently drive a 2006 LJ sport automatic. Unfortunately it sits right between the two door and four-door, to an extent is closer to the two-door seeing as their only 5 in different to the rear swing door not including the spare tire.

I’ll show you this as an example.

This year at Easter Jeep Safari I went on one of the Gold Bar Rim trail runs. There’s one major obstacle, not super hard, but a lot of folks couldn’t do it. It’s called the waterfall and it’s maybe a 7-8foot ledge that must be descended coming down, and then ascended going back out (when running gold bar rim alone, it’s an out and back trail. Though many folks come onto Gold Bar from Golden Spike and only climb this obstacle).

Anyway, the only rigs that struggled were 2drs. They are short enough that while going up, the entire rig is on the wall (front axle hasn’t crested the top of the wall before the rear starts to climb). This leads to them becoming pretty “nose light” and losing front end grip, slipping backwards, and often doing a bit of a rear axle stand before settling down to try again.

(I’m trying to upload a video but striking out)

And our 4dr just drove right up it without drama. The wall on steel bender is even worse, to the point that most 2drs tie off to another vehicle or winch line in the rear so they don't tip over forward coming down. I can't imagine some of the climbs on cliffhanger right before the parking lot wouldn't get sketchy in the 2dr either.

And some claim 2-doors aren't more fun!

Yeah, they won’t even let 2drs go down high dive on Behind the Rocks without a strap on the back.

My 4dr on 34’s (stock XR package) walked right up the wall on Gold Bar as well, zero issues, no drama. Then I towed the modded 2dr that was in front of me, who couldn’t make it up in 6-7 attempts, up behind me. I think part of his problem was too tall of tires, making center of gravity too high. Not a brag, but I certainly saw the benefits of some added wheelbase that day. I haven’t really been wanting for increased break over either.

For two people and a smaller dog… go for it. Part of the fun is minimizing and miniaturizing what you bring. You can always bring a smaller trailer.

The 2dr is much more fun and is awesome in the city/parking lots etc. when you aren’t on the trail.

My back seat came out the same day I bought It but it is just the two of us. To me, if you can’t go without a backseat, then the 4dr is for you. Getting into the backseat is not easy.

If you have another vehicle to handle the 4dr needs, then the 2dr is a no brainer as well.

With respect to inclines/declines, I’ve done several Moab BOH trails that made me pucker a bit but I’m not seeking the biggest shelves, hardest trails to conquer.

Since there’s lots of slamming of the four door here…one of the reasons the military switched from an essentially two-door Jeep to a HMMWV is because you can’t carry enough gear and/or people in it, and it’s less stable on difficult terrain.

In short, the 2-door is a glorified SXS.

(I actually love both! Just being a dick for the fun of it 🤣)
I much preferred the old M151 over a hummer. Easy to bang out a dent in one of those than the HMMWV :)

Do you run that with the seats out? Do you find it to be limiting on passenger space and cargo space? If yes then the 4 door is probably for you. No reason not to keep the LJ and also get the 4 door.
