Real world, 2 v 4 door?

Normally two people in the Jeep, maybe a third teen or dog.
Daily driver/ weekend warrior/ road trip to big off-road parks

Given these parameters would you go two-door or four-door and why

For those wondering, I currently drive a 2006 LJ sport automatic 3.75 lift on 35s. Unfortunately it sits right between the two door and four-door, to an extent is closer to the two-door seeing as their only 5 in different to the rear swing door not including the spare tire.

Agree with this. I'm just 1 person and when I road trip I have the backseat out and all of my gear fills the entire back of the Jeep. With 3 people you're going to need to leave the back seat in which leaves practically zero space for gear.

I love my two door. Two people, gear, and a dog is tight with the backseat removed for any road trip. It's doable, but it's tight. Sometimes a third person? Unless you're pulling a trailer, it's not going to work well.

To give you an idea of space with the third seat in use, you can fit 3-4 people (4 adults is not super comfortable) and ~4 paper grocery bags.

I would say two door but I am biased. I have only owned two doors. The extra space would be nice in a 4 door but I would rather have the better break over and turning radius of the two door. We make it work.

Take a good look at a 2-door with the back seat up, folded down, and if possible completely out. Now if the cargo space works for you, go with the 2-door - way more fun to drive and much more agile.

im a 2 door fan normally but bought a 4dr jeep. like everyone has said, more room, more comfortable ride. my son and i did a 2 week on pavement trip and between clothes and crap we bought it was way easier w a 4 door.

Two door, be different and leave the stuff you don't need at home. No need for a four door based on what you said and a two door will be WAY more fun off road, night and day.

Ignoring the obvious space differences:

A 2 door will be more nimble on the trail, both from the perspective of getting around and getting over stuff.

A 4 door will be less nimble, but will be more stable climbing steep stuff.

Hard top or soft top? I'm just under 6', and I feel claustrophobic if I'm in the rear seat too long—especially if there're lots of bumps. I can safely say I would not want to sit in the rear seat while rock crawling. I have a hard top, but I don't think I would feel this way in a soft top with the top down.

3 people and a dog on a roadtrip in a 2dr? Hard pass. Even without any camping gear or recovery gear you might have enough room to bring lunch...maybe.

I sometimes take one of my kids on a camp trip in the Jeep. Just the two of us and a small (10 lb) dog, but always glad to have that extra room in our 4-door. Not only for gear but just in case we get caught in a rain storm before we can set up the tent, we can make do in the Jeep with the seats folded.

On-road comfort is nice as well with the longer wheelbase.
