Power steering fluid

Does anybody have where in the owners manual it gives the requirements of what power steering fluid to use? The only thing I see is:

We recommend you use Mopar Electric Steering Pump Fluid.

No part number, no MS-number, nothing. There was a MS-11655 number getting tossed around here but I do like to verify with what's in the manual. I'm not sure if there's a different fluid part number depending on if you have the old or new gear box.

Great information....thanks for the posts.

Our '19 JLU had low power steering fluid. When the TSB for the steering gear was done, it came back just fine.

Consider reading through this whole thread... as the answer was posted long ago along with other pertinent info in regard to what to use, replenishing, etc..

Yup, they said on the thread to use ms-11655. In the manual though, I didn't see anything about this requirement.

I ended up going to the dealer and they sold me the MS-11655 bottle. On the receipt it didn't reference what vehicle it was going in, even though I told the parts depot guy what I had.

I got burned before. Bought some brakes from napa and the sales rep there gave me the wrong part. It's why I always question these things.

Another refresh bump, and found something kinda funny. Went to this mopar site and checking vehicle "fitment" it list various 3.6 V6 from 2011 thru 2022 (no Wranglers until 2018) but doesn't list any 2019s lol, guess they completely changed the power steering for that year only. But since I'm a gambler I'm going to assume they kept it the same, and will be using that fluid.

And FWIW, it's only a couple bucks to deviate from OEM fluid, no need to go that route IMO.

At $25 a pint I'd still say green is the predominant color

Younger woman working the counter said she had seen the price for this particular product double since she's been working there ... Supply and demand !! Dealership exclaimed theirs is on backorder and looking into Dec 2023 before possible availability..
Which leads me too wonder how much they have in they're service department then .??

Maybe I didn’t look quite close enough.. Is it necessary/recommended to extract as much of the remaining fluid prior to filling?

2022 JLUR 3.6l eTorque work 24k miles. I’m a little low and just did all my fluids. Wanting to top off the power steering. I have the mopar fluid on hand.

I personally just top it off.

I think if you extract as much of the remaining fluid then you have a risk of introducing air into the system.

Just to re-base this thread...from my 2018 JL Wrangler Tech Authority Service Manual. The specified fluid is 68088485AB which is a Mopar material spec MS 90030

Funny.... This AM, I just got finished doing the deed lets say in regard to the power steering fluid on my 2018 JL with 85,897 mi. on it............. and I come here and coincidentally, this thread has been bumped..

Anyway, for those that are interested, it is prudent to change the power steering fluid, every 40,000 miles or every two years of driving.

I myself do this.... lets call it... the abbreviated way...

I remove the top on the Power Steering Reservoir and use a clean Turkey baster to suck out all the fluid in the reservoir. Now, I fill the reservoir so fluid is between full and min mark on the reservoir and then put the reservoir cap back on.

I then will do my morning coffee run with the JL (3 miles+-) and then get back to the garage and repeat the deed mentioned above.

Usually, I find the new fluid I put in earlier / in there now, is only very slightly discolored. That fluid I put in earlier, mixed in with the fluid that remained in the system when I sucked the reservoir out earlier, so yes a tad discolored now.

Now, with a clean Turkey baster, I again remove the steering fluid and again fill reservoir so fluid is between min and max on the reservoir. That's it... done deal.

Yes, if the fluid I removed the second time was pretty discolored, I would do one more time. I have never had to do a 3rd time though.

Note: You can, instead of the ride to get coffee mentioned, just start the vehicle and move the steering wheel as far to left and then to right a few times and that gets done what happened with my ride for coffee..

Important: Note, I said a "clean Turkey Baster". It's really important not to introduce crapola into the reservoir.

Oh... the reservoir when you refill each time, it only takes a few ounces, so don't stress in regard to wasting lots of fairly pricey Mopar 68088485AB fluid. I buy the fluid at Amazon and it runs about $22 / pint.
