That looks like it can probably be polished out. I highly doubt they will get you a new fender.

I would prefer to get the polish than risk them doing more damage. (Most Likely) lol
True well see how it goes.

Inspect the fix very closely. If they do polish. Inspect it and make sure they didn't cut through the clear and into the paint. The clear will get thin.
When I noticed it (not sure if it shows in the pictures) but you can see some white, it looks like it went into clearcoat/paint.

Just got back from the local dealer (not Chapman) for its first oil change after the break in period. Just noticed (see photos below) the fender has scuffs scrapes and scratches…how do you damage a fender during an oil change let alone not clean up after yourself. Going to the dealer Monday to get this issue resolved, going to make them replace the fender with how new it is.

I'll admit I was expecting a tiny scratch in a black fender. This is F'ed up.

Polish out? Helllllllll no.
There is no way I’d take anything less than a replacement. This is a 392 with painted fenders. You can’t tell me the “tech” that did this didn’t realize what he’d done.
Someone needs to be held accountable for this and the dealership needs to do the right thing. They’d have to call the police to have me removed from the property if this were my Jeep.
Stand your ground and get the next level up the food chain involved if you have to. Completely unacceptable.

Thats what I was thinking, If I scratch it, its on me. I will be requesting a replacement, I dont want to see a sign that it was scratched.
I was following some of your post about your new 392. Sorry to hear of this. It is totally unacceptable. Skip the service maager. Ask to speak directly to the owner of the dealership or to the general manager.

The dealer will offer one of 2 things. Order a new painted fender under warranty so they do not have to foot the bill or offer to have a local body shop repair or paint it. A good body shop can match the color, shade, orange peel. I also don't blame you for wanting a new fender. Make sure the replacement fender matches the other fenders. I would even consider having them replace all 4 fenders if there is color issue.

This is tricky because it's the dealer that screwed up. It's on the dealer not Jeep. I would still get Jeep involved. Voice your displeasure. They are known to offer "Goodwill" for the inconvenience. They give free Mopar extended warranties, service contracts, ect.

Make sure they do not make any reports to Carfax.

Good luck with this.

I missed this since ive never had an issue before + the Hemi sound distracted me. Now I will be on high alert for the next few changes. Afterward Ill have to see where the oil plug is and do them myself once I know where to dispose of the old oil

Good grief. I'd be beside myself if this happened to my Jeep. Unbelievable.
Yeah, I saw some white near a taillight thankfully its just extra wax and was able to remove some of it, I hate being this OCD but this Jeep 392 is my baby, if I cause damage, shame on me and I will have to live with it and own up to it via repairs but for someone to have the audacity to f*ck up a simple oil change, make me question life.

He left the property..unless someone admits to the damage, this could be excused as off the property vandalism.
I feel bad but, this sticks out like a sore thumb that should of been caught there and not even driven away.
Why weren't these photos taken on the lot with a manager watching and taking his own?
This is on the owner.

Dealer I went to for my second and last free oil change, service writer did a walk around with a clip board to note any prior damage...
For several years now, one of the Service Advisors at our Honda dealer will walk around the vehicle with an iPod, filming its exterior condition. They do so almost immediately after the owner exits the vehicle after pulling it into one of the service reception lanes. The footage will serve to protect their interests, or the owner's, depending on the circumstances if (and when and where) damage has been discovered during the time that the vehicle is in the dealer's possession.

I think the foregoing is a good policy, one that possibly may have paid dividends in the case of the damaged fender being discussed here.

And there's the flaw in the slaw.

Cory, be prepared in case the dealer takes this very position. I'm not saying this to be accusatory, but rather to suggest what might [unfortunately] happen.

Best of luck as you seek resolution here.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your Jeep.

This is one of many reasons I never go to the dealership for the "free" oil change. Too many times, the dealership has Jr. change the oil. Often, these 'mechanics' are new to the repair business and don't have any real skills. Just have never had any luck with the dealerships' oil changes. I usually either change the oil myself or have a local shop who lets me watch the oil being changed.
