Oil pan damage

Hey everyone, went wheeling yesterday and managed to get a decent sized rock to shift underneath me, when I checked this morning I noticed a bit of damage on the oil pan. I'm wondering if I need to replace it or if I can just leave it, I do not believe it is leaking at all and the dents seem rather mild, thoughts? I am already planning on adding a skid plate now, likely the ASFIR but not totally sure yet.

If it's not leaking then it didn't hit anything inside or it would of ground a hole in the pan, thats a plus

If your under any powertrain warranty I would replace with an OE pan. Especially if you can do it yourself. Would suck to have a claim engine related and be denied for that damage. It happens.
Makes sense I did not think about that, I just got it so I have all the warranties still on it.

if it were mine it would drive me nuts so I would replace it...Asfir4x4 for the win... get a gas tank skid well you are at it...super easy installs and fast delivery..

Damaging your oil pan on a rock will not be covered by the powertrain warranty.
i think the idea was replace it so the dealership didn't use it against you in the future.....you know hey look at this dented pan we know you abused your rig...WARRANTY DENIED

I realize that, I took it as reason to deny a potential claim. I did read somewhere else someone had an engine block and a scrape on the oil plan and they denied it because of the scrape. No clue what came of that but I’d like to avoid that.

I bet the lower pan is pretty cheap from Benny, I'd swap it next at home oil change.

10 M6 bolts, 80 INCH-lbs
2 to 3 mm wide bead of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant
Following the application of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant to the gasket surfaces, the components must be assembled within 10 minutes and the attaching fasteners must be tightened to specification within 45 minutes. Prolonged exposure to the air prior to assembly may result in engine fluid leakage.

Were that my oil pan, I'd likely order a new replacement pan and monitor the current one while I wait.

A skid plate is definitely recommended.

I appreciate the instructions, Benny's is right around the corner from me so might take a trip over.

As @jadmt said...Asfir makes great skid plates. Price and quality is excellent and their customer service is top notch.

An oil pan is about $50 online.

The only concern with dents in oil pans is blocking the pickup. keep an eye on the oil pressure, especially at higher rpm.

Heck, rock crawling without a engine skid is like a one-night stand and no condom! If one doesn't see a doc, then the hell with a skid plate. :LOL:
