2019 JL Sahara arriving in my hands last week of Feb. Will I need to protect the oil pan if Im a light weight off roader? No rock crawling...maybe running over a pedestrian or 2. Trails rated "2" for stock jeeps. Whadda ya think?

My suggestion would be lift and tires first then a steel bumper and some good straps, nothing wrong with skid plates but not at the top of the list

I'd be more worried about those side steps being damaged. Might want to pickup some recovery gear. Maybe even a more aggressive tire... a lift like was suggested. Oh, and a few body bags :whew:

Yes, those side steps can get wrecked pretty easily. Just be careful with moderate off road stuff. My 2007 JLU Sahara would have lost it's side steps if I had not changed them for a set of MoPar rock rails on a trip to the old "Camp Jeep" in Virginia on the first 1/2 mile of their first off road trail, good investment!!

Have fun whatever you do!

Go Jeep!!!

Even though you plan on taking lighter trails...any trail may have "gotchas" that you don't see. I once rolled over a bent and partially covered fence t-post laying down on a trail that immediately shot up to my floor pan. Luckily, no real damage...but I didn't see it. Getting anything that might help you protect the vital parts of your drive line isn't a bad idea...might just ensure you can drive it home. Enjoy your Jeep!

Never once put a mark on my JK's oil pan so never bothered with a skid. My first trip out in the JL...

Not really worried about it anymore though...

Looks good..how about relocating that low positioned steering stabilizer? That guy is begging to get acquainted with a rock/stump.

If this helps. This is the order we put the parts on and we hit "3" and "4" trails. We are far from done but this is all we could afford now. Skid plates are in our future because of the rock crawling we do. We've already sustained some hard hits on the underside.
'18 Sahara, 22k miles in one year of ownership. -
33" Rubi takeoffs
2.5" RC budget boost (this is the lift that Kevin and Litebrite beat the heck out of)
Barricade aluminum bumper
RC 9500lb winch. Some people knock RC but this winch has gotten this Jeep, my Jeep and another Jeep out of some real jams.
ACE Engineering rock rails that bolt to the frame. (Sahara side steps don't like sliding on rocks.)
JKS sway bar disconnects.
Rancho 5000x shocks sitting in the closet waiting for paint. Now we will get rid of stock shocks and budget boost bracket so we will have a full travel shock.

Skids in near future. Dana 44s, lockers, true 2" lift and 35s in our distant future. Yes I know... why didn't we just buy a Rubicon? Because we are noobs and didn't realize how hard we would offroad this thing. We are going to Moab in July.
So you can see how far down skids are in the list. Now we are ready for them, the oil pan is tiny and tucked up far. I am more concerned about the tranny pan.

That photos a few months old. I don't run a stabilizer any more. Ditched it. at some point I may get the metalcloak relocation bracket, but it doesn't seem to need it so I'm not in a hurry.
