Oil Change Torque Specs

Been changing oil on my own vehicles for 40 years. Never once used a torque wrench during the process.

Everything has an engineered torque value even the bolts for your license plate but somethings you really don’t have to torque

But you have to take into account your wrist torque declines with age.

In my case that only means I’ve been overtorquing my whole life and am slowly getting closer to an acceptable level!

I used a silver Sharpie marker and drew a nice line down the front of the oil filter housing, then removed it and changed filters. Carefully screwed it back in until the silver line was forward and I felt it bottom in the threads...not one millimeter tighter! LOL

I re-used the oil pan drain plug, it's got some kinda co-moulded rubber gasket on it (or so it appears), tightened snug but not overly so with a box wrench.

I don’t think the 30 ft/lbs is correct. ALLDATA says 20 ft/lbs for my 2025 Rubicon X VIN #.

What is this rubber gasket on the drain plug? My '21 never had that, and I haven't seen it on any '18 thru '22. Was this added in later models perhaps?

If you’re talking about the drain plug, that’s correct. 3.6 oil filter cap is 18.

Dunno, it was first oil change and it almost looked co-moulded onto the drain plug which is a steel bolt with flange around the head...never seen one with gasket looking dealio like that...wiped clean and re-used, knock on wood no drips lol.

OK...I have seen that on several other vehicles in the past, but never on a JL. Maybe it is a replacement bolt? Did you buy your Jeep new?

That type of seal is OEM on GM LS/LT engines. I liked it so much, when I welded a bung on the GM truck transmission pan, I used the GM engine drain plug.

My 23 3.6 OEM drain plug bolt has the rubber overmolded flange. This is a pic of some Crown Automotive spares ( I’m a hardware hoarder) but my OEM looks the same, just a lot dirtier.
