Dear Members:
I have a Stick shift 2021 Wrangler Sport Unlimited with about 39,000 Miles.
The dealer had me come in for oil changes every 3000 miles which I did. Going forward is it okay to have the oil changed every 7,000 miles? Had the differential fluid changed at 30,000 miles.
Thanks.

7500-10000 miles, there is absolutely zero reason to change the synthetic oil on a modern vehicle at 3000 miles -- that is archaic thinking that made sense 30 years ago. Unless you're doing constant stop and go traffic or serious towing/off-road work, 7500 is more than adequate.

Unless you were subjecting the Jeep to some super extreme conditions, you should ask the dealer to show you in writing where it says a 3k mile oil change is required.

3.6 Gasoline, Jeep manual says do it when the Jeep tells you to and use Synthetic. Been doing it like that on a number of Jeeps for many years. No issues. But sure, I know some people like to use arbitrary numbers and be a on tight schedule. Each their own and some places of business like to take advantage of goobers.

I usually do it when oil life gauge is around 10-15% which incidentally coincides with around 7-8k miles since my driving habits don’t change that much. My UOA is coming back fine so I’ll continue with it.

I have an oil change program that came with my 21 JLR through the Lithia dealership network. It cost $600 up front. I get twice a year changes, full synthetic, at no charge for as long as I own it. I find that twice a year puts me at about 45% oil life. We have slow driving here.
Shout out to Lithia, great dealerships.

Always wrenched myself. Crazy, but never trusted the dealer to change the oil and strip out a fill spout. So for the 40$ I do it myself. My last 3 Jeeps anyway. I always dumped at 6-7 K miles .

Like so many others here, I would use the Oil Change Interval indicator in the dash and the user manual- don’t exceed 10k miles or 12 months, and before that just use the computer. I usually change mine when it hits anywhere from 20% to 10% remaining.

It’s also never a bad idea to just check your oil every couple of stops for gas to make sure it’s not consuming oil.

When I fill up with gas, I check the oil and make sure it's not too dirty, but other than that, I use the Jeep's alert system. I try to go no more than 12 months. I don't drive my Jeep 10,000 miles a year. More like 6,000. So I do it annually in the Spring. That usually lasts me all year.

Every 5k-7k oil change and tire rotation. I change the engine air filter at the same time too living in dusty and windy Las Vegas. A/C filter every 8-10K miles.

Seen too many engine tear downs on 10k oil change intervals to think that is ok. I never go more than 5k on synthetic and 3k on Dino intervals.

But, I keep my vehicles until they are not economically viable. None of my vehicles have enough life remaining for second owners.

Use your oil life indicator. It monitors how hard you drive, engine temps, distance driven, temps reached, etc. to calculate the life of the oil. It's not just driven from the odometer. When your computer says change it, change it.

Changing it any earlier is just wasting money.

The oil life monitor has no way of analyzing oil. In short, it just uses an algorithm based on readings from various engines sensors. It does not monitor oil level either.

I go by a 7500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first schedule. Always full synthetic, always changed by me. I do reset the OLM when I change the oil, I don't know why. Just because I can I guess.

You will be good changing it more frequently, but it's a waste of time and money. 3k miles changes were the recommendation years ago when most oil was just refined crude and when there were a lot less additives. Even then, you could do 5k miles if you drove a lot. 3K changes were to prevent sludge in cars with short trips.

Now, if you are a short trip driver, you should pat closer attention to your oil and take your Jeep out every other week or so for a good long, spirited highway drive. I've seen far more low miles babied engines ruined that high miles ones.

5K with a tire rotation at the same time. I perform used oil analysis (UOA) on my oil and both Rotella Gas Truck and Valvoline Extended Performance were all but done at 5K despite the iOLM showing 40-50% life remaining.

Now running Mobil ESP and will see how that fares going forward.

I’m trying it out this time and I’ve gotta change the oil in the next couple week, I’ll let you know. I think I’m right at 6500-7k
