On a related note, the best decision of my life was stopping as I was unscrewing the drain plug on a transfer case and deciding to first check that the fill plug would remove. Turns out it was hopelessly stripped and ultimately I drove to a welding shop to have a bolt tacked on the plug to be able to get it removed..

Wait… What?

Meaning you’ve done this before?
Yeah, once about 30 years ago to my old boss’s car, even fired it up for a few seconds. I only noticed when I was cleaning up the tools and saw the drain plug on the bench. Oops.

I’ve been wrenching on my own and others vehicles for over 4 decades, bound to have the odd screw-up here and there.

Don't drain the transmission fluid, then add 5 quarts of oil to the engine.
I once worked with a guy that drained the engine oil then added a bunch of oil to the tranny.

I did that to my old subaru way back when I was still trying to figure out how cars work
