The 2.0t is torque limited in 4LO according to jeep. The superchips tune removed that and the difference was obvious. No idea how much torque limiting there was, but you could definitely feel the difference. Not sure if the 3.6L has a similar factory tune, it's imagine the derating "fix" for the exploding clutches would be more aggressive in 4LO, but that's just speculation.

Any link to where they say that?

If we're actually going to do this it needs to be up an incline with a paved surface. Flat ground might not slip the converter enough.

It would be interesting to graph torque converter slip vs. incline. A clutch should be a straight line.

Weirdly superchips doesn't mention it on their site now. I know they did back when I bought the trail dash and tuned our 2019 in 2020?

I was at a Scout event in Colorado in the early aughts and they did exactly this. Guys would crawl race across the fairgrounds to see who was slowest.

I had a JK with the manual and 4.56 gears. The 4 speed atlas with 11.7:1 made it interesting. 238:1 final drive in low-low was fun to show off but not really useful on the trails.

I always wondered if it was ever really useful. There are definitely times when I wished for a little bit more gear, but damn that a tremendous amount of gear reduction when multiplied. Probably have to use 3rd gear or something to make any sense.

Since we're talking gears, here's my other car. It does not have an overdrive, and I kind of wonder why all transmissions aren't built with the top gear being 1:1 to reduce drivetrain losses at cruising speeds.

Again, you don't need chargers in rural areas. Everyone has property... and electricity. You definitely don't need "enough chargers" for every EV owner. I know a lot of people who commute in EVs and have never charged anywhere but at home. Why would you if that was an option? Those low population density locations away from major freeways look like a major portion of the country... but nobody lives there and those that do don't live in apartments. The majority of the population absolutely has ready access to charging. The majority of the land mass may not have public chargers within 100 miles but that doesn't even remotely tell the whole story. I agree that EV tech is rapidly advancing, there are prototype solid state batteries pushing model 3 teslas past 700 miles of range. When that becomes the norm, public charges become nearly irrelevant even for roadtrips. So long as I pick a hotel with a charger, odds are I’m not driving over 700 miles per day.

Electricity is only part of the equation. You need more than just electricity. You need the capacity for at least level 2 charging, which is barely going to fit on smaller residential services (assuming they like AC, heat, refrigeration and the ability to wash clothing too). And there's all those people in small towns with street only parking. How do you plug in?

But yeah this will change over time. People don't have gas stations at home but almost everyone does have easy access to fuel up their car in less than five minutes at a nearby gas station. Once that becomes true of EV charging stations across the country, large scale EV adoption can happen. Problem is, as noted, that's a very long way off.

Most of the time I had the main case in 4.3:1 low. I almost never shifted the 2.72 doubler inro low. When I did I'd usually start off in 3rd. But only because I could.

Realistically, I didn't need a 4 speed. Having the 4.3 over the stock sport 2.72 was like having "one more" lower gear and that made enough difference just about all the time.

Thats actually kinda wild since most of the time 4th is going to be your 1:1 and 5/6 are gonna be overdrive for cruising and fuel econ. What kinda car is it?
