JeepWranglerForums.com - the only place on the internet where HP produced vs fuel used is considered rocket science.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised that Beavis and Butthead would be clueless about such a simple concept.

Air-fuel ratio, volumetric efficiency, ignition timing... this is anything but simple.

If only there was a visual way to compare these engines... Like if a user created a comprehensive way to see what power, or torque a certain engine produces at a given speed....

Oh, hey @AnnDee4444 I didn't see you there with all those links in your signature.

They are both good engines. Yes, I am partial to the V6, but I live at 1,400 elevation. I have driven through Colorado, and the Sierra Nevada mountains, but don't live there, so it didn't bother me. Jeep has to push the 4cyl because of the fuel mileage. They don't sell any EV's as of right now and the fuel credits are killing them. That's why the V8 is gone in the Ram trucks. For example, with GM for every Silverado/Sierra EV they sell they can sell 30 Silverado/Sierra HD trucks. For every Blazer EV they sell, they can sell 5 Silverado LD's. Same with Ford. They build these EV's and lose money on them so they can sell the full-size V8 monsters and not pay a huge penalty. Stellantis didn't do that and now they are playing a serious game of catch-up.
This right here is often overlooked by the 4XE haters and EV FUDs. These manufacturers aren't doing anything out of the kindness of their hearts or environment. It's all a shell game. No one is PUSHING EV's on the unwashed masses, save for the government. It's all about getting those credits so they can continue to make/sell the larger gas guzzlers. The gas-guzzlers we continue to buy...

But only if they're all dyno'd on the same dyno at altitude
Gee, why would altitude matter? Is there possibly some benefit of compressing air, vs just sucking it into the engine, that has measurable benefits at altitude?

Well, in my view, I like to be six pair to the automatic and the Rubicon X with 456 gears that is a pretty nice combination. Feels plenty strong and admittedly I am at sea level. I did test drive the four-cylinder and I just don’t like the way it sounds has a tinny sound to it to me. Plus being older than most dinosaurs. I am definitely old-school and just prefer normally aspirated, but that’s just my opinion and not worth anything more than that.

And same ambient temperature, same air pressure, same tires, same tire wear, same gearing, same oil temperature, same transmission temperature, same transfer case temperature, same ....

Basically don't bother comparing anything. You'll never get all the factors to match, and someone will point it out.

The 1968 327 corvette had 300hp, weighed half as much as the JLU, and did 0-60 in 7.5s. These big girls are quick with their mediocre engines by comparison (that 8 speed auto is amazing at getting the most out of any engine you put in front of it).

That 300 HP was measured differently (SAE gross). In 1972 they made manufacturers measure the engine as installed (SAE net). That 300 HP turned into a more realistic 180 overnight.

And when you add in the crappy stock tires back then, the 0-60 times were understandable. Throw some decent tires on that car and it would easily drop a second off the quarter mile time. Maybe even off the 0-60.
