I really want to jump from 40x13.5r17 to 42x13.5r17. I am currently running the following set up.

73" Wide DSTRAC 76 Axles
4.75" BS method wheels
40x13.5r17 Cooper STT
4.5" Rock Krawler springs w/king shocks
Teraflex long arm.

Overall jeep width is 86.5". Will this setup be good enough to run 42"? Should I be wider? taller?

You got this. You may have to change to the Next Venture 40"+ cutout rear fender flares and inner fender panels and move the rear axle back a small amount with your adjustable control arms.

Oh sure. I will definitely change my fenders, motobilt high clearance are my favorite. Even now with 40s I rub my fenders a bit on the outside. I wonder how much can I stretch the rear...maybe 1"?

Be sure and stuff the rear axle first to see how much you can move it, as the axle moves back as it compresses….

just need to change your wheels to 3.5" backspacing and trim more
That is my main concern, wheel BackSpace. I just got this ones :( and here in Chile there is no Market for selling them... And getting another set from USA its to expensive.... Maybe Spacers is the way to go but I hate them..

Yep. I need to find a place to flex it. I really never test it beside when going offroad...

Definitely want 3.5 backspacing, and lots of rear wheel well trimming if you want to use the full range of suspension when stuffed. But when you get all dialed in you will love 42s

Motobilt rear inner fender liners have less tire clearance than the stock plastic inner fender liners. There are several people that are having serious tire rub using those inner fender liners with 37s. Take a look at the Next Venture 40"+ rear inner fender liners. They do require significant cutting of the body tub, but if you want to be able to stuff 42s that is what you'll need.

They now have high clearance inner liners that work perfect along with there high clearance fenders, I have them and have no rubbing at all.

Kevin of Lite Brite is running 42s on his JL 4 Dr with a race built 392 named "Step Child". He has done every mod a person can do for running 42s and to keep it reliable.

In the past, he has pretty much elaborated on all the mods he has done. You should try to reach out and see if he is willing to help.
