That I have. Two engines actually. I’ve learned way more about engines than I ever wanted to know. Haha. But yes very glad the parts came much sooner than I was expecting. Just hope that’s the end of it all. Thank you!
Three engines in 144K miles is crazy! Did all of them have the same problem?

If it's likely the engine will quit suddenly that's a safety issue likely to result in a recall. Just look at the GM 6.2L V8 problem.
My wife has a 6.2L in her Escalade and I needed to get the oil changed, tried to go to a quick lube place and they turned me away because they said a tsb came out stating the oil they were using in it (0W30) was going to ruin the engine and I needed to go to the dealership. It was legit. But my wife’s Escalade is a 2018 which is not affected by the TSB.

ok so im reading that this is only for the "upgraded" version of the engine - so not a turbo or 4xe. that means us regular loser 3.6s are safe? besides being a loser that is
The engine in the 4xe is the turbo, which is the 2.0T. So yes, you are safe.

Does anyone here have good data on what the frequency of failure is or the conditions which make it more or less likely?

If you had the repair done, how long did it take to get parts? Was it fixed in warranty or outside warranty? If outside of warranty, how old was your Wrangler and how many miles?

My view is the problem was resolved with recent production. To say it was not, is overly pessimistic to the point of being unrealistic.
I had this repair completed twice in my 2021 JLUR. The first time at 26k miles, the second at about 42 or 43k. I then switched to 5w30 oil and, knock on wood, it has been fine since then. I'm now right at 71k miles. I also just bought a 2025, partially because of this issue, and will be selling my 2021 after I get all the parts moved over.

This TSB should help resolve some folks questions about oil selection in the 3.6. The TSB clearly states “manufacturing issue” as the cause. What we don’t know is what that manufacturing issue is, it could be an uncontrolled heat treatment issue, a metallurgy issue, surface finish issue, etc. Without knowing what the issue is we can’t make good judgements on if a specific vehicle will or won’t have the symptoms. All we can do is look at the larger trends of how many failures in the fleet.
So with all of this said clearly oil viscosity does not make a difference in regards to this failure, if it did they would have made the change. After studying the failures on the cam follower with the flat tappet style sliding surface I suspected that the issue was somewhere other than oil viscosity and maintenance.
Unfortunately this was issued as a TSB , so if you don’t have the problem during warranty period they will not cover it unless you get a good faith help from FCA. This is unfortunate for the consumer as there are a lot of these fleet engines out there .

I am losing my hope getting anything free from the dealer, my 2018 3.6 JL 80.000 miles is throwing codes of slow response bank one, misfire and has a shitty idle, probably not even worth it stop at the dealer asking about the TSB.

The issue has never resulted in an engine shutting down. It’s been a tick and rough idle but never a complete loss of power. If there was going to be a recall it would’ve happened by now. This is just confirming it was a manufacturer defect and to make sure the dealers are using the updated parts and not any of the older ones they may possibly have in stock.

It's worth a try. If that doesn't work, try with Stellantis.

And to think that the pentastar V6 was the "reliable" engine option...
Millions of these engines out in the US. Last figure I saw was it was affecting less than 1/2% of all 3.6 engines manufactured. Yeah I would say a pretty reliable engine.

I just wish this would have come out before I had the engine replaced in the MY18. It says it right there in the tsb "should be used instead of replacing the complete engine/long block." Every place I went no one would even remove a valve cover, they went straight to engine replacement.

I just picked mine up from the dealer yesterday they replaced both head gaskets on 3.6 this morning I had a pool again underneath it so I took it back. I just dropped it off. God only knows what it is oil coming out of the same area as before I have no idea, but I’m gonna find out when I get it back I guessI. Rear of engine. Up high.

Where did you get this information?
I have to find it again but it came out with info in the class action for the issue. If i remember right this included all 3.6 manufactured engines not just the PUG update. So that would be going back to 2011 when the 3.6 made its debut.
