Wait passive entry is the one of the biggest reason you are considering a Rubicon?
For me this is a 1000% yes. I have wanted a wrangler for a long time. 1) can’t have a third car so 2) this needs to be my wife’s DD. She has had GC’s for many many years. Two things she must have and haven’t been able to get or integrate very easily in previous Wranglers, passive entry with push to start AND a back up camera. Visibility out back as you know is not great and she works in a school and was terrified of not having a camera.

With the new JL launch this means our family FINALLY gets rid of the GC and now order a JL.

Yeah you do need perspective. You are so bothered by one word I typed that it's amusing. Guess what? I can make things fit how I prefer also. Have you heard of a synonym; A word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word? Here's a synonym of abysmal for you, lamentable. Of circumstances or conditions - unsatisfactory. Of an event, action, or attitude - unfortunate; regrettable. I would use all of those to describe exactly what I am hearing of the passive entry. This is purely MY OPINION, which you do not comprehend.. Who do you think you are to tell me what words I should be using? I still stand by my use of abysmal. The price jump from a Sport S to a Rubicon to get passive entry totally justifies this for ME. It does not rise to the level of just "annoying", however I would use that to describe this interaction with you.
You really should think about changing your avatar. I am just saying.

My experience is the same as yours, but what I have found interesting is that once it's recognized the FOB and unlocked, it will easily do it over and over quickly, as you would expect. The issue seems to happen once it's rested for some period of time...kinda like it goes into low power mode and takes a sec to warm up before registering the proximity and unlocking. Same thing happens when, say, it's in your garage and unlocked...you grab the handle and the lights come on. If it's been sitting, it won't register until after the delay, but if you just opened the door, and closed it, only to open it again...It works instantly.

Having a Lexus and trading my Tacoma for the Jeep, I'm also spoiled by the flawless execution from Toyota.
Yes, my experience is the same as yours. Once active, it works really well, it’s the “waking up” that has the delay.

Just did a quick test. My JL is parked in the garage , unlocked and off. Has been sitting there since yesterdsy. I put the FOB in my pocket and walked out.

Grabbed the handle, but did not pull it, then let go. The gear indicator light at the gear shifter came on first, followed by the screen between the cluster, the the screen on the infotainment center.

Grabbed it again within 5 seconds, the headlight and taillights came on, too.

Tested this twice. Worked the same both times.

Third time, I waited about 10 seconds between grabs, and the headlights and taillights DID NOT come on. Interior did as usual.

Interesting behavior. I would think it would be more helpful if the outside lights came on with the first grab, no?

Right, and the manuals says:
• Passive Entry Unlock initiates illuminated approach (Low Beams, License Plate Lamp, Position Lamps) for whichever time duration is set between 0, 30 (default), 60 or 90 seconds. Passive Entry Unlock also initiates two flashes of the turn signal lamps.

So, you’d think the vehicle would “wake up” as you approach and then unlock when you grab the handle.

You would think that, yes, but it definitely doesn't know I'm close. I mean, I stood next to it, untouched for about a minute during one of my tests...and nothing.

The Lexus, though, lights up the handles and lights up the ground around the car when I get about 5 foot from it...everytime.

My passive entry works very fast with the first touch of the handle. I don’t know if it is different for others, but I have been very happy with how it works.

Even after setting for a period of time? Mine works great once active, just not after it sits for awhile.

Yeah, not trying to just over exaggerate how great this vehicle is, the prox entry has worked very well and very fast for me.

Mine is a bit inconsistent, most of the delay happens if its sitting for a while. This morning it was instant though, so I’m not exactly sure what it is happening.

I have also noticed that it doesn’t always lock the first time I press the button on the handle. Sometimes that takes a second as well.

I have seen this behavior in Toyotas and Lexus' as well.

I wish mine was more consistent, for sure. Coming out of a store yesterday, bags in hand, had to pull on the handle 3-4 times before it recognized me. Annoying. I stood there for probably, like, 6 seconds. Like someone else said, I'm moving my hand all over the handle looking for the sweet spot. I probably look like an idiot over here feeling up my Jeep's handle, lol.

OMG, a whole 6 seconds ?!?!
JK lol #1stworldproblems ;)
6 seconds does seem like along time to stand around waiting for the door to unlock. I'd just press the remote unlock button instead especially if you are being chased.

Definitely not ordering the proximity keyless entry option.

And to think I got the Rubi for the smoker package and found out later it comes with all trims!
