Does it work any better/worse than on the Grand Cherokees? My wife has it on hers, and from what we have experienced, it has been flawless. I can't imagine it being worse on the JL since they're both FCA vehicles, but if it is, it has me reconsidering...

^^^^ that's very annoying! My Grand Cherokee was instant like your Toyo.

On a side note, this was standard along with push start on the Grand Cherokee. I sort of feel it should be standard on the JL too. I love the push start but I still have to partially take my key out to unlock the door.

My Wife's Lexus is fast also. I think it's because older folks drive those cars and any delay they may fall down on the ground.

I would agree that if it usually takes two pulls of the handle to open the door that would be very annoying and unacceptable in my book.

How does this system work? When your fob is near the door do you have to touch the inside of the door handle for it to unlock and then pull to open?

When you first touch the door handle without pulling do you hear the actuator unlock the door or does it not unlock until you pull?

If it’s the former then maybe you have to wait a second or two (until you hear the actuator) before pulling the handle to give the actuator a chance to unlock the door first. This would be less annoying than pulling the handle multiple times. I have no knowledge since I’ve never owned a vehicle with passive entry.

So I made a short video to show the difference between my Toyota and my Jeep.

Does it do the same thing if the vehicles were switched sides? Example, maybe walking up to the Jeep from the front as you did the car instead of walking from the rear? Just a thought. I've never owned a vehicle with this system, that's why I ordered it on my JL. There is a big difference as you've shown on your video, perhaps there is a flash update that the dealer could do to make it faster? Thanks for posting this.

Yeah, it’s the same no matter what. At work, grocery store, driveway, all the same.

I’m hoping there’s an update and it’s not normal. Hoping to hear other feedback on those that have this feature to see if it’s just mine.

The manual says to grab the handle to unlock, but even if I do that there is quite a delay.

I’ve tried different parts of the handle trying to determine if there is a specific spot the senses, but it really seems to come down to how long it takes for the vehicle to recognize that the key is nearby.

Guys I think you are giving this way too much thought and effort, if it takes a second tap, which mine does sometimes, do it and get in and drive it away. With a big smile on your face I might add!
I’d be ok with a second tap, but 4?

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the JL, I’m really just trying to determine if this is the correct functionality, or if there is something wrong.

Seeing at how there are settings through the Uconnect, I'm sure there is a possibility for an update for this system. Have you tried turning it off then back on through the UC?

I hear ya, but I for one would like for this to work as fast as his Toyota did. Nitpicky? Perhaps I am. That looks like it'd bug me a little. Maybe not, I've never had this system before. :)

My experience is the same as yours, but what I have found interesting is that once it's recognized the FOB and unlocked, it will easily do it over and over quickly, as you would expect. The issue seems to happen once it's rested for some period of time...kinda like it goes into low power mode and takes a sec to warm up before registering the proximity and unlocking. Same thing happens when, say, it's in your garage and unlocked...you grab the handle and the lights come on. If it's been sitting, it won't register until after the delay, but if you just opened the door, and closed it, only to open it again...It works instantly.

Having a Lexus and trading my Tacoma for the Jeep, I'm also spoiled by the flawless execution from Toyota.

I have zero issues with our durango and you would think it's based on the same system. It works as well as my bmw.
Hopefully they figure this out quick.

Do they have sensors on the rear doors as well?

No, just the front two. Which, irionically, I was happy with when compared to my Tacoma. The Tacoma only has one on the driver's door. I was happy to get the functionality in the front passenger door...only to, then, be let down a little with its execution.

Bummer, having it on the rear doors is awesome. When you close your door, you can just walk away as closing and touch the rear door as walking by to lock.

It is on the rear door swing gate, too, which is handy. Just FYI...
