Key fob washing machine blues

Key fob went thru wash and now it & backup fob only lock unlock at close range & jeep won’t beep when locking… what did I fry?

Washing the fob has nothing to do with range or horn of either fob. Change the battery on them both. Then go into Uconnect and see if the horn function is selected or not.

You should fully open the one that was washed and let it dry in some rice as well.

Done that, opened, rice. new battery’s in both.. I will look at UConnect but why would that change and why is distance suddenly a factor?

Order a new one from Benny @all mopar parts. The circuit board is likely damaged. Save the silicon chip and metal key, for a compact emergency key.

Just did this too...one new battery, one week to simply dry, works fine now.

Not sure but between the UConnect setting, JScan/Tazer/Something similiar, that's the only way the horn noise would turn off.
As for range, batteries affect that but if you changed it for a known good one, also unsure.

If there’s no evidence of water/physical damage and you’re under warranty there’s a chance the dealer will replace it if it’s anything other than the battery. I’m sure it’s pretty subjective and depends on your relationship with your service advisor.

not to beat someone when there down, but how did that happen? these fobs are so big I can always feel when they are in my pocket. maybe the one good thing about them being that big.

I typically put it in the small change pocket and it didn’t get noticed on laundry day.. Also I suggest putting a dab of hot glue on tip of key, if ever needed easy to pick off and it eliminates the switchblade in pants issue.

It’s home is the small change pocket.. that location & a little bit of hot glue on tip of key eliminates the switchblade in pants effect.

You might consider opening it up and loosening the internal spring. That'll keep it from being quite so incredibly annoying.
