OK first, it's CR...which means you can just throw it out. We really need to ban CR ratings from this site.

Second, Tesla is at the top of that list, which immediately means it's majorly suspect. Tesla is among the absolute worst in initial quality and reliability. It would be interesting to know exactly what criteria the list uses. Perhaps it only includes powertrain maintenance?

Finally, once you consider that 1/3rd of the Jeep brand's yearly sales are stripped off-road-focused vehicles and they still were barely able to surpass Cadillac and Lexus, things don't look so great.

They need to add a column “lifetime cost of mods”. That would drive Jeep to the bottom of the list!
Exactly what i was thinkin... Tires, wheels, lift, front rear bumpers, winch, doors then all the electric goodies for fixin design flaws and, of course, blingy upgrades to really make it yours. 6 grand is a deal!

Repairs, maintenance, insurance, depreciation (in absolute terms, not percent) , interest paid on loans, gas. The real cost of running a Jeep, if you can avoid modifying it, is very low compared to other options.

Most other options suffer much more absolute depreciation, or a least they did, until JL started costing 50,60,70,80k.

Well to start if you have 5 years warranty on your Jeep you will likely only spend money on oil changes and filters. Well under $500 for 5 years.

I definitely would like to see the detail behind this chart - I imagine pricing of repairs/parts would have a big impact, seeing how different Toyota vs Lexus is, for example.

Cheaper, more frequent fixes could be at the top (my thoughts on Tesla, I imagine they just cover a lot of the initial quality issues under warranty/for free) vs less frequent but more expensive hourly rates in the shop (e.g. Lexus above).

Also, Jeep could be doing pretty well because a larger proportion of owners work on them themselves vs the rest of the brands, which would cost down (no paid labor).

Why do you say this?
Seriously, I'm just curious..
CR takes great liberties with it's "not for profit" status...despite outwardly claiming to be a neutral ratings organization they very much DO accept contributions from automakers and affiliates.

And also the fact that they have no idea how to properly evaluate automobiles. CR is an appliance rating organization and automobiles are not appliances.
