I’ve talked to several other wrangler owners varying from stock, fox, to my metalcloak 6pak setup and then I finally drove a new one at the dealership last week. We all recognize it’s a solid axle and is ideal for crawling but how is it soo bad. I’ve driven vintage land cruisers, scouts, travelalls, these wrangler ride like shit. Have you guys just made peace with it? Obviously im able to just sell, snag something new and move on but genuinely curious how you enthusiasts feel about it.

Yep, I've grown to appreciate how horrible my Wrangler rides. When I go for a cruise around town it is the vehicle I drive the most. Now if I'm on the highway and want to ride on a cloud I grab the keys to my Tundra.

Had a modded 2021 JLUR 6-speed and now a stock 392 soon to be on MC 3.5 lift.

Both rode just fine for me given whatvI use them for which is daily driving, offroad trails and rock crawling

I also find myself grabbing the keys to my pickup. Any rutted gravel road to a fishing or hiking spot is just easier. Feels like the jeep wasn’t even made for it.

I admire your ability to ignore how terrible it is. They shutter on road cracks. Speed wobble from sewer covers. It’s almost funny.

Have driven 3 different JLs this past year:
a) 2018 Rubicon stock - still drives like new - still does not drive bad at all
b) 2023 4xe Rubicon test drive - new - did not drive bad at all
c) 2023 Sport dealer courtesy for 3 weeks - demo - did not drive bad at all

Each drives a bit differently with different tires - vehicle weights etc
But all three drove and drive perfectly acceptable for 4x4 solid axle beasts
So not sure what any of the complaints are really

They are meant to go over pretty much anything vs snap in half
But everyone has their own opinions what they think is ok vs what is sh!t

Is this one of those stupid posts folks post to get a reaction out of readers?

I think these new JLs ride just fine. I drove mine from WA to FL and back and I enjoyed it. There's way more to how a vehicle rides than just solid axle vs. IFS. To say these new Jeeps ride like shit is a gross exaggeration. I don't know what your benchmark is.

I used to own a Range Rover Classic. It was the luxury 4x4 of its day. It had solid axles front and rear. It too road nice.

But to each his own. Lots of us are happy with our Jeeps and how they ride. If you don't like them, don't buy one. If you have one and don't like it (you did test drive one before buying one?) then sell it. Maybe you'd be happier in a new Bronco or Toyota?

One thing to note is they usually come with 40-42 PSI in the tires from the factory, if you bump that down to a cool 32-36 the ride quality greatly improves. Also, I love the feeling of driving my wrangler, it's unlike anything else but I'll admit not for everyone.

It’s all relative to what you are used to. This being my 5th wrangler over 4 generations and this one feels so much more refined. It isn’t even fair to compare a JL ride to a YJ or TJ.

You did take a few test drives first, right?

Let’s just go ahead and put an end to this thread right…

Now.
I don’t think ending a thread because I’m asking why the ride is so bad is necessary. Every jeep owner I’ve met including some in this thread are more than happy to smile and say yea it rides like crap but I love it.
My comparison is to other solid axle 4x4 of the past riding much better. My 88 fj62 with missing rear shocks had a more plush ride. Was curious what the forums consensus on the subject was.

mine is lifted on 37s and its not bad. nothing compared to the lowered cars ive owned in the past....

i test drove a brand new Rubicon and it drove sooo nice.

it must be too much psi in the tires. that can make it ride stiff. maybe combined with awful roads?

yeah go drive a YJ with leaf springs and get back to us lol

my buddys C7 Z06s doesnt ride super great on rough roads either. and he has $$$ magnetic suspension.
