Hello,

Looking for some advice... I'm looking to buy a new 2024 Unlimited Sport S.

The MSRP is $49,735. The dealer's asking price is $46,945 out-the-door. This includes the $499 doc fee.

The price above does NOT include taxes, since we pay taxes at the DMV when we title our vehicles here in Missouri.

My offer was $45,000 out-the-door (roughly 5% below invoice) which they promptly rejected.

Is $46,945 a good deal for a 2024 Wrangler with an MSPR of $49,735?

I sent my dealer a link to this forum with dealerships doing up 6% below invoice for in-stock units. He said, "No way we can do that."

Thanks!

I’d imagine that the dealers have a lot of interest in the redesigned 24’s over any left over MY23’s.

If you are not in a rush to buy and set on a MY24 then I’d pass and place an order with one of the dealers offering % below discount.

Worst case scenario, there’s no movement on the one that you want that is sitting on the dealer lot and he accepts $45,000. Best case, you get a better deal on an ordered Jeep built to your specifications.

Fun ones!
I’m so confused. It sounds like you have the necessary information to make an informed decision. Clearly you know what you can order one for. C’mon this isn’t rocket science.

If the Jeep is built as you like then buy it.
Who knows when the factory will complete your potential build.

It's hard to evaluate "Out the door" when the tax rate across the country is different. Overall sounds like a good deal.

Maybe I misunderstood, but you’re saying this Jeep was available today on the lot? Cuz most of the deals you see on this forum are for orders. I’d say that’s a pretty good price if it’s available to take home today.

Check with other dealers in your area. Dependent on region, some Jeep dealers are severely overstocked at inventory, others are not.

The ~6% under invoice are for custom orders, and only available at a few large volume dealerships nationwide. Specific to my area (Mid-Atlantic), there’s only one (Koons) that regularly offers it, with a few others that have occasional promotions.

Have you tried Lou Fusz in St. Louis? I haven't worked with them in some time but They used to be pretty reasonable when it comes to prices and dealing with the customer.

Roughly 6% under MSRP. Is it everything you want? If so, then it's an okay price. If you have a trade, maybe you can make it up on that end and save some sales tax as well.

Unless you go order a custom build from one of those high-below-invoice dealerships, and wait for it, it looks like you're getting roughly less than the affiliate "1% below invoice" custom order, but I'm basing that off what I did for my 2024 being built (~54k down to ~51k).

So if the Jeep is the trim you want with the options you want, it's a decent deal. Considering you can "drive it home today" if you so wish, I'd give it a B. On $$$ amounts alone, a C. You're not getting ripped off and can get it now, but there's room for improvement.

You can probably do slightly better by finding a dealership that'd order you the Jeep at 1% below invoice with TL, or significantly better by going to one of the dealerships in Ratbert's spreadsheet (5-7% under invoice). Both would require you to wait for Jeep to build it, and there's a looming strike by the UAW. The high percentage below might require you to plan around flying out there to pick it up if there's not one near you.

I'd probably second Lou Fusz in the STL area as well as All Star and Menard. When I was early in the shopping phase I talked to all of these dealers and they were all easy to get numbers from and weren't pushy at all - at least not during the quoting phase. The rest I reached out to either didn't give a number, didn't respond at all. or were just not interested in what one referred to as "a feeding frenzy." Ultimately I went with Steve @ Jim Butler as they're one of those dealers willing to go rock bottom on the custom orders.

My dad says that there a two things people always lie about. How much they make and how much they paid for their car. It's true to a certain extent. Many, not all, exaggerate their income and brag about how little they paid for their vehicle.

In other words, there will always be someone who will say they paid less for what they drive. If it's what you want, then get it. I see no sense in flying 1500 miles to save $1000, but some will do it to save $500, then stop at the outlet mall on the way home and spend the money they "saved".

Unless the issue with the UAW is dealt with, vehicles will be in short supply again and used prices will go even higher. Winter is a few moths away and 4x4 prices always go up in the fall, especially in places where it snows.

I would caution you on two things. Make sure you can afford it, and make sure it's what you want. No vehicle is more expensive and less satisfying than the one you stretched your budget for and that you didn't really want.
