I'm guessing from older vehicles. Pretty damn challenging to siphon from newer ones.
From what I remember, they were older Korean cars.

That's what I was thinking. So not relevant to the current topic, right?
Maybe, maybe not. I haven't tried to siphon a newer car, lately. Have you? I was just answering your question with my first hand knowledge of a subject brought up. Not trying to apply it to every car on the road.

Nope, you're right. I haven't tried it myself since having to do that when much younger.

I have, however, looked at the newer systems that are specifically designed to prevent it. Everything I've seen and read implies that it's extremely effective, but maybe you have different experiences. That's why I asked.

I just found this on AliExpress: $236.70 | Lantsun JL1290 electric fuel tank cover for Jeep for wrangler JL 2018+ 4 door
https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0ODw5b
Thanks for this info.

I tracked down a contact email for Lantsun and asked if they sell the door lock piggyback wiring harness separately. They created a listing for it on Alibaba, and I bought one for $33 plus ~$15 import/transaction fees.

It arrived today, and the quality is impressive. I confrimed it works using a multimeter.

I'm going to attempt to use it (with a generic door lock actuator) to add DIY central locking to the gullwing window I added to my top.

You’re going to risk leaving your gas cap cover unsecured?

If anyone has understanding on how this works (the video doesn't help answer that) I would appreciate it if they would share.

Questions that come to mind are is it the cover not the included gas cap that locks? Wait, does it lock? And if so, what opens it? Is there some button on the included cable?

It seems to piggyback electrical current off the tail light, right?

I respectfully disagree. Every ICE car has a gas cap of some sort, so if you make it difficult for vandals and thieves to open yours, it's just easier for them to move on to someone else's vehicle. Obviously, you're not deterring them from committing the bad behavior, but you are deterring them from committing it on your vehicle. I can't fathom that folks will drop thousands on angry bird grilles, vehicle wraps, exterior lighting, suspension kits, winches, and all manner of 4x4 gear, but can't justify a measly $25-$30 locking gas cap. To each his/her own, though...
I agree. As in "I don't need to outrun the bear, I just need to outrun YOU".

Yes; the fuel door locks (not the cap).
And if so, what opens it?
The factory door locks lock and unlock the fuel door. The fuel door opens manually.
Is there some button on the included cable?
No

No; the piggyback interrupts the factory rear driver's door harness (taps into the door lock/unlock signal).

Where do you guys live that having your gas stolen is this big of a problem. I'm 53 and never once have had stolen from my cars.
They've admitted nobody is stealing gas due to the anti-siphon filler necks. Now they are worried about people adding things to their gas tank (far less likely than gas theft which is already exceedingly rare) that could cause damage.

Yeah man I just heard on the news that the Gas Tank Gang was pissed they couldn't siphon anymore so they are pouring sugar in peoples gas tanks.
