i run a locking gas. keyed to my jl key. this is just as good for security. gas thief is harder now due to a one way flap that is at the bottom of the filler tube going into the tank.

I like the capless look. If youre concerned about fuel theft you can put a spring in your gas fill line that prevents siphoningat walmart

I hear that Steve. I'm not afraid of what they may take out, especially given the built in anti-siphoning, I'm afraid of what they might put in.

It's not that anyone has it in for me; it's that some people can be really disturbed and do things to complete strangers just for kicks.

Maybe that's a bit overprotective, but it's based on making it harder for the opportunistic criminal to move on to another target, not to prevent the truly motivated from causing harm: which is near impossible to prevent.

Not worried about gas theft. But to me it looks kind of unfinished without a cover.

I guess I should not expect a finished vehicle for only $50k. :)
Finished vehicle? Be lucky you don't have to buy an aftermarket engine and that the JL comes with one!! lol

I went with the Mopar Black/Chrome. 2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler JL Chrome/Black Texture Insert Fuel Door OEM 82215122 Mopar | BAM Wholesale Parts Was also one of my first mods.
Goes good with white and matches wheels too

Does the Mopar fuel door have a gasket between the fuel door unit and the Jeep body? The videos on ExtremeTerrain make it look like it does. I bought an aftermarket fuel door that does not and the cheap ones on Amazon also seem to have no gasket. Was wondering if that is partly why the Mopar one is more expensive.

I have the Smittybilt cover and am happy with it so far. The only annoying part is when you close the rear driver door, it opens ever so slightly and then closes quickly because of the magnets. It makes a clank noise, but other than that it looks sharp. I've only had it on for a couple months, so I can't say how well it holds up in the weather.

I put the black version of the Mopar cover on the wife’s JL last week and can confirm it does have the gasket.

No, no separate gasket came with my Mopar gas cap that sits between the unit and the body. Nor does the instruction booklet show a gasket as part of the assembly so I do not believe i'm missing a part. The only rubber gasket is the one which secures the gas fill pipe thru the bottom of the cap unit. Mostly the reason for the price difference comes from the Mopar name and quality. You will pay a premium for Mopar but inevitably the fit quality and performance of the item can't be beat by most any other manufacturer out there. I've bought other brands and on several occassions wound up buying the Mopar version because I was dissappointed at something in the quality or fit of the original item bought. Whenever Mopar is in the budget buy Mopar!!!

I also just viewed the XT video. Can't see where there is a gasket between unit and Jeep. They snap the one piece door unit into the Jeep body as I did.

At 1:21 in this Qudratec video he mentions the gasket. You can see something sitting between the Jeep and fuel door assembly. Unless he is just talking about the gasket around the filler neck. Possible, but not totally clear.

But it would be a nice feature. They all should have it. It is easy to see how water will get into your rear quarter panel without one.

@Sol

I am talking about a gasket between the fuel door assembly and the Jeep quarter panel, not a gasket around the filler neck. So there are the two gaskets?

You're right it definately mentions a gasket that sits between the body and unit. The gasket seems to be between the retention tabs and the unit itself. It's all one piece ready to install. I didn't even notice it on mine when I just popped it into the body opening.

To be honest I'm not sure now. What looked to me like a gasket might be the ABS plastic lip of the tub that the aluminum door and ring is attached to? Wish I had the real thing in front of me to examine...would make life a lot easier. If Amazon had one available with free returns, I'd order one just to see what it looks like exactly. ;)

I'll have a closer look at mine in the light tomorrow to see if I see one. I know it didn't come separate from the unit and I believe the Quadratec video is right if they stated it, which they did. Mopar probably did sneek one in there. They're good that way.
