You're thinking a regular plastic bottle will work? No, it has to be designed to open the spring-loaded flap, which only opens when a correctly-sized nozzle (~.87 inches for gas, ~.93 inches for our diesels) is inserted.Look, tampering of any kind is exceeding rare. But please don't make it sound like plastic water bottles are anything but ubiquitous.
Side note: somehow you can't put a gas nozzle in a diesel. I intentionally tried it once and it wouldn't go in. That is, if you really want to be further protected from Dastardly Scoundrel you should get a diesel.
