I have a 300 deductible on my extended warranty. I trust my mechanic more than i do a dealership. If the problem turns out to be major going to contact the NY Attorney General and try to get a refund. It's only been 2 weeks.
If your state is like most, there is no recission or "cooling off" period for vehicle purchases. You can't just unwind the contract and make the dealer take the car back. It's a used car, there is no "lemon" law. If the cost of getting the Jeep checked out is a concern, you may pale at the tens of thousands of dollars, and many months, or years, it will likely take to pursue any actual or perceived legal issue with the used car dealer. I'm guessing the State AG is going to tell you good luck with your used car; you bought it. I'm not discouraging you, just describing something from my own book of experience in this realm.

Yes but first I have to find our if it's a warranty issue.
Only the dealer determines that, and they cover the cost of the diagnostic if it is. Else you're on the hook for probably a $150-$200 charge for that.

Yes, there is. And if you plan to pursue that I would recommend following the requirements to the letter of the law, including any provision for using the selling dealer's written warranty and requirements for repair.

Since you already bought the Jeep, and it's still under provisions of the factory warranty, you could throw the keys at a dealer and have them fix the problem.

The manufacturer's 5 year, 60k, no-deductible powertrain warranty should apply if the cause is a warranty issue.

The difference is, "your mechanic" won't do the work for free.
At this point she needs someone competent who she can trust.

She needs to make sure that her mechanic does not pull anything apart. She must be able to say that no-one else has done any work on the vehicle.

It is possible that this is a long standing issue. The previous owner may have sold the vehicle because of it.

It is actually a good idea to check the coolant, oil and brake fluid on a regular basis.
I've a years-long habit of checking the fluids in our vehicles every Saturday morning. The oil levels and tire pressures in the motorcycles are checked before every ride.

In the Jeep, the central TFT screen always illustrates one of the Big 3: Coolant temp, Transmission temp or Oil Pressure. The other available displays, like current song selection or other such fluff, is exactly that. The vehicle's vitals are what matters, always.

The accessory gauge display in Offroad Pages is my go-to for that. Fantastic to have all the gauges in one place without having to flip through them.

Just sucks that if there is a problem after the 3 day wait for the page to come up it no longer helps.

That's really my only quibble regarding the dashboard in my Jeep: that I don't have analog gauges in the style that the YJ did, and that I have to scroll through each individual e-gauge display on the monochromatic TFT screen.

My brother has a high-zoot WK2 Hemi Trailhawk with Offroad Pages and all the other trimmings. After I mentioned the above to him, he got in the habit of recurringly sending me screenshots of his Accessory Gauge display. The jerk.

Take it to a Jeep dealer and ask them to perform tests needed to determine coolant leak.

However, you need to agree to pay for the services up front. There are different tests to determine the problem, such as pressure test and combustion leak detection. Once you know the actual problem.....then you can go to the mat.

Linda,

I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope everything works out in your favor. Keep utilizing your resources to help in this situation. 👍

It could be worse, you could have had major eye surgery for the second time. 😕

No smoke.
I am all but certain my 3.6L had a cracked block. No white smoke, no visible signs in the oil--but a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) showed potassium which kept increasing.

Buy a Blackstone oil analysis test (cheapest one). If you have potassium (anything more than 2 parts per million), then you have coolant getting into the oil via cracked head, cracked block, or gasket(s).

I had a coolant leak in my Dodge Ram. It turned out to be the heater core. Windows fogged up slightly usually in the mornings and underneath the carpet was soaked. Does the 2.0 have a oil cooler? Like the 3.6
