Thanks for sharing that!
I'm not absolutely sure if it's significantly more resistant to the usual types of breakage than traditional glass or not. It's definitely lighter, but weight isn't usually a massive concern in this community.

We have lots of antidotal reports of cracks in various types of windshields here. People that paid extra for Gorilla Glass will usually whine more loudly when it breaks, especially when they see how much a replacement costs. The first replacement, of course, is almost always covered by the warranty.

My second windshield is cracked. No clue what I'll replace it with. Probably standard glass if there's a significant premium for GG.

It was only $95 additional back when I ordered mine. I just do my best to stay as far back from the vehicle in front of me.
I've come to the conclusion that the biggest hazard are the rocks that the KO2s throw in front of you. My biggest crack scares happened when nobody was anywhere near me. I had to have thrown them at myself.

But luckily no cracked windshields yet. (Knock on wood)

2 chips within 6 months and one finally cracked and spread but the warranty covers one replacement so just waiting on the glass to come in. Saved me $2200 is what safelite charges for the glass

I have had good luck with my Gorilla Glass. Same as others mentioned, we had a huge rock hit it with no damage. The rock was so big my wife gasped as we both saw it flying towards us. It also seems to pit less than standard glass.

I ordered the gorilla glass when I bought the Rubicon. Windshield was hit by a pebble at 200 miles on the odometer. Stellantis told me to pound sand, but wait, they did give me 2 yrs of free dent removal🙄.
i replaced it on my dime, installed racing optics windshield film. Since then I have had several really good hits, no cracks or chips.

I bought my GG in December of 21 and get hit multiple times per week since I live in Michigan where construction and rock trucks are our states mascots. Got a good amount of chips at this point (I haven't had any filled) but no cracks. My original glass cracked within the first couple weeks. I paid just over $600 when I upgraded to GG. Well worth it for me.

Just had a chip filled in and overheard the tech on the security cam say Gorilla Glass is a waste of money. 😂
I admit it is far over priced, but I went through 4 windshields within a year. One little rock chip always turned into the Grand Canyon across my window. Since I have the Gorilla glass not even a chip in a year. ... I guess I like it...

I ordered Gorilla Glass on my 2022 Rubicon. At the time it was $195 option. The luck I’ve had with windshields over the years that was a bargain in my mind. As the price has edged upwards I’m not sure I see it as quite as good of value. I can tell you something hit the windshield very hard recently and no damage. So far it’s been a good investment.

I also have positive feedback on the Gorilla Glass. No experience on standard glass with a JL, but on my JK, I went through 4 or 5 windshields in less than two years, and didn’t bother replacing the last one until it was time to sell. That thing chipped and cracked like nobody’s business.

My JL glass has had some chips, with the first and worst one being from the drive home from the dealership, but I got a full kit for like $12 at Walmart and took care of those myself. Has a bit of pitting, but I figure that’s just par for the course with the highway miles I’ve driven and most of its time in Texas or Michigan.

It was $195 when I ordered it from the factory, so I figured why not, but not sure I would have gone for it if it had costed much more. Just under 27k on the odometer and so far, so good!

I used to go thru a windshield at least once a year here in NM but that changed to once every 3 years, after I had gorilla glass installed but in the end it finally got a decent size ping in it as well but I did get 3 years out of it.

What I would say Gorilla glass is not cost effective and I wouldn't buy it again. Besides windshields get pitts in them just using your vehicle day to day and its nice to have a nice super clear windshield every year or so nobody want to have to replace a windshield but at least it nice to have one totally unobstructed and nice and clear.

Bottom line forget Gorilla Glass and gimmicks like windshield plastic or flexoseal, lamin-x (family member had that on his jeep, it scratches so easily with just a little dirt on the windshield, just another scam plus it too is expensive to have installed.

Your best bet is to try to stay way from big trucks, don't tailgate and if your windshield takes a hit just get good quality replacement and save your cash for the next windshield. That's about all you can do with a Jeep that has nearly a 90 degree windshield that is at a disadvantage from the start.

Yes it is a waste. My one tiny chip cracked all the way across the windshield in 24 hours so couldn’t even fix the chip. Thankfully dealer honored the warranty coverage that allows first replacement windshield free.

Same here - my High Tide less than a year old. Dealer would not honor the warranty. Then, out of the "goodness of his heart" saide the dealership wouldpay for the replacement as a courtesy. You gotta love the dealerships....can't wait to see what this one comes up with next!!!! Its like "you can't make this shit up" with these dealerships!!!!

reading the GG warranty carefully, it's almost impossible to have damage that's covered; damage has got to be bigger than a certain amount but still smaller than a certain amount.
in my case, i replaced my original standard windshield with GG after the original one was damaged from something thrown from an oncoming truck just minutes after arriving in Moab. the local Glass shop there sees enough Wrangler windshield damage that not only do they keep them in stock, but the guys know the P/N by heart. their recommendation was for a generic replacement that was just a few hunnert dollars "because you're going to need another one again soon anyway".

the GG i put in when i got home lasted until becoming the landing point for another object thrown by another vehicle in an adjacent lane. big enough that i could see it coming and loud enough at impact that it made my ears ring, it left only a nearly imperceptible chip. i didn't drive the JLU for a few days, then came out one morning to find a crack had appeared and spread from the impact point quite a long way across the windshield rending it out of GG Warranty coverage.

i replaced that with standard glass again, but wondering about the inpact intrusion prevention provided by the GG i might spring for the extra few hunnert bux and do GG again next time (because we all know there's going to be a Next Time) just for peace of mind.

FWIW, when shopping around for glass, i found Safelite to consistently be the most expensive option, up to nearly double what i could get from other shops. additionally, they wanted to charge for "Re-calibration" of systems i don't have, on top of their over-inflated pricing.

Back
then , I don’t know about now but the warranty for Gorilla Glass plainly stated that it must be installed by a dealer, no mention of installed as part of the build. I dealt with Jeep Cares, yeah right🙄
I got tired of arguing with them and just used my insurance.
