Just had a chip filled in and overheard the tech on the security cam say Gorilla Glass is a waste of money.

TBH, and from everything I’ve heard, that sounds about right. I was sad when it wasn’t an option when I bought my ‘23. Not anymore. Just glad I didn’t have to finance that glass!Just had a chip filled in and overheard the tech on the security cam say Gorilla Glass is a waste of money.![]()

I had it on my '21, and I do believe that is exactly what it did for me. Took the biggest rock hit in my 40 years of driving and thankfully it didn't come through. It hit the passenger side and scared the crap out of mePeople seem to be under the impression that GG is supposed to be impervious to chips / cracks. As far as I can tell it's instead designed to keep objects from making it through the glass and into the passenger compartment.
I was under the impression that normal safety glass used in windshields is supposed to do that. The Gorilla Glass is supposed to be ever more effective? To be honest I didn’t even know it was an available option.People seem to be under the impression that GG is supposed to be impervious to chips / cracks. $1250 plus installation. That's why I have been driving with a cracked windshield since October. Can't wait to see how much the '24 windshields cost to replace now that in their infinite wisdom they put the radio antenna in there as well...
The Mythbuster guys sold out to Corning several years ago and did videos like this.. The windshield stuff starts at about 6 minutes in.I was under the impression that normal safety glass used in windshields is supposed to do that.
