Gorilla glass???

I joined the cracked windshield club 2 weeks after purchase. Had the window replaced at this local tint shop and the owner told me about this product similar to the screen protector on your phone. Showed me a video at this years Sima show he put a center punch to the middle of the windshield and it skipped off . So I had it added to my windshield for an additional $150 I’ve watched at least 3 rocks on the hwy bounce right off I couldn’t be happier

I've been lucky with my JL. Last year drove 4 ,500 miles in 5 weeks thru Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho during ice and snow where interstate was covered with gravel. Trucks threw it up on my windshield and with all the noises of it hitting thought bound to crack but didn't. If you look in the right light there are about 20 tiny sparles where the rocks hit.
My JK I replaced the windshield once and had cracks filled three times.

Gorilla glass has been around for a long time. In the center region, the glass is strong. However, if it gets hit anywhere in or near the corners it will shatter.

Gorilla glass is a brand. It was supposed to be used in iPhones so they wouldn’t scratch from metal keys and would be less likely to shatter. (I think Apple bought them and then sold them) It’s made to be harder than diamond if I recall. I know when two items meet the softer one breaks but I don’t know about that if one object is going 60mph.

Edit* Corning is the company that made it and there are competitors probably using a different name than Gorilla.

One of the problems with Gorilla Glass is that it is softer, so it is less prone to break… but is much more prone to scratch.

looks like the article suggests that it would be substantially more durable. No discussion of cost though. if the glass does fail (I.e. with a larger stone, etc) I’m wondering how much more to replace it than a conventional windshield?

regardless, it’s good to see evolution in windshield tech as getting a chip really is a PITA Right now.

This stuff is much stronger than the "stock" windshield. I would think a windshield like this is more for racing when rocks from the guy in front of you are peppering your windshiels (if you have one) It is absolutely great stuff and I would highly recommend it. I have heard some down fall, I have not personally saw this, but I understand you can suffer a little Paralax, in other words depth perception and corners may be an issue. But like I said, I have never experienced a drive with it. It takes a hell of a beating and keeps on looking good.

I got my windshield replaced recently and the Safelite rep told me the Gorilla Glass replacement is available but you have to order it 2-3 months in advance. She told me it has an additional layer of lamination to help reduce cracks.

Hello there all. I am new to the Jeep world and I love it so far. However, I, too, fell victim 2 weeks in to not one, but 2 seperate cracks. I had the windshield replaced by a local installer after Safelite tried robbing me. If you ever have to go to them, dont fall for the recalibration charge.
I then found this stuff called Exoshield. It is also like a screen protector. I have had it on for over a month and I am wuite impressed. It cost $400 installed. Good thing about it is, if your windshield cracks with the exoshield on, they replace your windshield and install new film for free.

The dealer I bought mine from was offering "Diamond Coat". They said it's "unbreakable" AND repels rain better than Rain-X. Sounded shady to me, so I thought I better research first. Any hear of it?

Unbreakable glass? Repels rain? One of those two claims sounds untrue and the other does not sound like something they should charge extra for.
