Had to go out and measure. The tires are about 5 1/2 feet apart ?
The 38's and 1.5" wheel spacers put the jeep at 82" wide, and the dirt 9" up the side wall tells me it was at 45⁰+. Of course there was no chance to jump out with a tape measure, but some quick trigonometry tells me it would have been 59" off the ground at 45⁰, 67" at 55⁰, and an even 6' at 60⁰, but yes it was an estimate. Let's say 5-6' for accuracy.

Most people drive with Traction Control always on.
Many drive with Traction Control on most of the time.

So you find one situation where it's appropriate to turn traction control off (which is why it can be turned off) and therefore it should be turned off everywhere?
Were you in 4WD LO in that mud and now always drive everywhere in 4WD LO?
Was it a warm sunny day so you never put your top on again?
That's just silly.

I'll agree that Traction Control is poorly named and is counter-intuitive. It should be something like On-Road Traction Control. It does expect pavement to be under the tires and it works quite well when there is. It gets confused where there isn't pavement under the tires so that's when it should be turned off.
Unless you're on road and a tire losses traction from a puddle, oil spill, sand, or whatever. In my experience the traction control cutting power is a safety hazard for anyone with defensive driving experience. The last thing I want is the Jeep cutting power in the middle of a high speed defensive maneuver. For the average non-driver bopping along on their cell phone, they absolutely need all the help they can get.

You are NOT asking a stupid question. I usually mess with people who it's their first post on the forum and they're something like, "guys, what lift should I get for my jeep?" or "Did you see how the Bronco broke, will my Jeep break like that?"

However, I will not mess with you because this is a legitimate question and it has a perfect answer. Jeeps Wranglers were 100% absolutely made to be drifted like a Toyota Supra in Japan. The Jeep Wrangler was built like a cat. Please see my reference material for proof.

Dirt 9" up the side wall has nothing to do with the angle the vehicle achieved. The tire sidewall will roll under the wheel when sideways forces (and tipping) are encountered. There is no way to determine how much the tire rolled under, so no way to corollate on vehicle tip angle achieved.

I'm not saying the tip wasn't excessive and scary, but the dirt marks on the sidewall don't tell the mathematical story here.

There was minimal tire roll under at 34 psi, the tires were on the sidewall that far. I've been driving like I was 15 on and off road since I was 15 (29 years ago). I guarantee the jeep was at a minimum 50⁰ tilted as I've had it above 40⁰ countless times off road. I know what that feels like and I know when it's gone too far. This was well past the too far point and turning into it and momentum were the only thing that saved it. Don't really care if anyone believes it, I was there and have 4 witnesses (3 of which were inside and 1 that was outside) who agree it was a damn miracle it didn't end up rolling. Closest I've ever seen anyone come to rolling without going over and 100% wouldn't even think about trying it again as saving it was as much luck as skill.

Nice!

This video is kinda funny at so many levels.

So for the really funny part, where’s the video of a Porsche 911 on a trail...? ?

The YJs has a bit of tippy feeling, never had that with the TJ, JK, and definitely not the JL 4dr.

If you want to get a good feel for traction limits, practice in snow on big open parking lots, well frozen over lakes, and/ or a Defensive Driving course. Descriptions are wonderful, but actually learning what the limits feel like, and living, are best done in these settings. Plus, you can do them over and over

LOL!!! I can't believe we're breaking down actual numbers here on how high his wheels got. It was a definite 'pant-shitting' moment and zandc kept his head when most wouldn't.
I bet that landing was still a little harsh?

Who drives a Jeep with the traction control on? One of my favorite features of the tazer is it remembers to leave that garbage off for me. The first time you hit some mud or a loose hill climb on a dirt road with it on and it kills all power and damn near gets you stuck will be the last time you find it acceptable to ever be on in a Jeep, or at least it was for me.
Agreed. Mine is turned off at every startup. I hate it. It will activate while in a straight line at interstate speeds with certain bumps. I drive mine like it's a Jeep and not a Trans Am when I'm on the road.

funny you say that, porsche has a new trim, granted i’m sure it can’t do much more than a dirt road but it’s something.

that JL was booking it, kinda wanna do an auto x day with the jeep now
